Kersley Hospital, near Coventry

Kersley Hall was built in 1894 by William Hillman, the car maker. After his death the house was converted, in 1929, into a convalescent home with monies bequeathed by John Alcock, a local man. It was at Kersley hospital that my birth certificate states that I entered this world and to which I returned "screaming and kicking", in about 1956 to have my tonsiles removed. Later visits to the building were more pleasurable after 1968 when the hospital closed and became the Royal Court Hotel.
