NEWS:

THE WATCHER, PART 5 :: MAY 20 2001

From Buffy magazine:

"Sarah Michelle Gellar took time out form her busy Buffy schedule to head for Australia in late February to make a start on the Scooby Doo movie. Dress in a purple mini-skirt, Sarah looked the perfect choice for Daphne, the cartoon ghosthunter. Although appearing as a redhead in the film, Sarah has resorted to wigs rather than hair dye. With several season 5 episodes still to film at that point, a strawberry blonde slayer might have seemed a little odd!

Marc Blucas is in massive demand at the moment. Having completed work on A View From The Top, the ex-Buffy boyf has now joined the cast of indie-featured Gold Coast, Paramount's We Were Once Soldiers ... and Young, and Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. This last project is particularly cool as it also features Titan Towers' favorite Eliza Dushku!

As mentioned last issue, Amber Benson is producing her own independent film, Chance. Her company, Benson Entertainment, is holding a fund-raiser to help cover the production costs of the movie. They will be offering an exclusive signed glossy photograph of Benson in full-director-mode in return for any donation in excess of $15. Anyone sending in $50 or more will get the signed photo and their name in the special "thank you" list at the end of the film credits! For more info, visit Amber's approved fansite at http://amberess.amberbenson.net/"

Well!!! I can't wait to see Buffy with her OTHER Scooby gang... What's changed? They still solve crime, their still all young and hopeful :: Oh yeah - Matthew Lillard and Freddie Prinze Jr. will also be in it!!!

GILES' OWN SHOW, ON THE BBC??? :: MAY 1ST 2001

Creator of "Buffy", Joss Whedon, in an article with the LA Times has confirmed he is in talks with the BBC for six episodes series centered on Giles. "It would be a grown-up, quiet show about a cool, grown-up, non-teenage man quietly solving ghost stories. It would be very different in tone: slower, more like the series already on TV there. But not too British."

Well done ASH! Or Ripper

UPN MOVE :: MAY 1ST 2001

It's official, Buffy is definitely moving to UPN (the channel) and leaving the WB, after 5 seasons!

From the WB:

"Dear Buffy Fans,

As you are probably aware, Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be leaving The WB at the end of this summer after five seasons with our network.

Of course we're disappointed that Buffy won't be part of our long-term future, but we couldn't be prouder of what we've accomplished through years of nurturing and believing in the show, and of the achievements to date of the talented cast and crew. It took a lot of time, effort and energy to get this show on the air at a time when there was nothing else out there like it, and to make it a success even when others doubted.

Knowing how much you care about the show, we negotiated strongly to keep it on The WB, but ultimately the price 20th Television wanted was too high for us to pay while continuing to bring you other quality programming six nights a week.

You will definitely want to see what happens in Sunnydale as the current season draws to a close. With the same passion we brought to Buffy, we're also working on some amazing new programs for next season we think you'll be very excited about, and are looking forward to announcing those on TheWB.com in a few weeks.

We'll keep Buffy.com going for as long as the show is still on The WB, and TheWB.com will continue to be your best source for what's happening on the network.

Want to tell us what you think? Write to us.

And thanks for your loyal viewership. Everyone here works hard to earn it.

Best regards,

THE WB TELEVISION NETWORK"

Well, don't worry Buffster fans - this only means Buffy will be a different button on your remote - nothing will change; the stars, the content etc.

AWARDS ALL ROUND :: APRIL 19TH 2001

From BTVS magazine:

"Buffy and Angel have been showered in accolades by various end-of-year reviews and awards ceremonies.

In its "Best of 2000" double issue, Entertainment Weekly voted Buffy as the fifth best television show of the year. The influential US magazine was particularly taken by Season Five's emphasis on a reunited Scooby Gang, the arrival of Dawn Summers and Spike's growing love for Buffy, and singled out Anthony Stewart Head and newcomer Michelle Trachtenberg for special praise.

TV Guide's review of the year, meanwhile, named Buffy as the seventh best show of 2000. "After 4 seasons, Buffy's bold blend of comedy and terror is as compelling as ever," it noted.

Fittingly, Buffy and Angel were also heavily nominated in the third Annual TV Guide Awards. While Buffy was among the contenders in the prestigious Drama Series Of The Year category, Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz were in the running fir Best Actor and Best Actress respectively, Alyson Hannigan was nominated for Best Supporting Actress and James Marsters was in the running for Best Supporting Actor.

Other leading publications to salute to Buffy and Angel included USA Today, which collectively placed them as the 3rd best show of 2000. After praising their "crisp writing" and "undervalued actors", writer Robert Bianco concluded: "I can think of no two series that leave me more eager for their nest episodes to arrive."

Buffy and Angel fared even better on the IGN Sci-Fi website, which collectively named them as the Best Series of the year and gave Angel star David Boreanaz its Best Actor Bemmie Award. Buffy was also named as the second best show of the year by the US website, Salon.com."

THE END OF SEASON 2 OF ANGEL :: APRIL 19TH 2001

From BTVS magazine:

"Angel Star David Boreanaz has expressed his excitement about the producers' plans for the show's second season finale.

As part of an interview with the Fandom.com website, Angel's real life alter ego promised that viewers would be stunned by the events in the clsoing moments of Season Two. "The idea they have for the end of this season for Angel is the best ending I've ever been a part of" said Boreanaz, who has, of course, previously worked on several memorable Buffy cliffhangers. "It's just an amazing twist. I'm really happy about it. It's going to be cool."

Naturally, Boreanaz wouldn't give away any plot details of Angel's second season finale. But he did confirm that he was due to finish shooting the episode on April 12."

THE WATCHER, PART 4 :: MARCH 18TH 2001

MORE on the stars of the show... [Taken from BTVS magazine]

"Marc Blucas is one lucky, lucky man. Not content with romancing the Slayer, the actor behind Buffy hunk Riley Finn is set to lock his lips with Hollywood superstar Gwenyth Palthrow in a major in a mayjor new big screen comedy. Blucas has landed the role of Plathrow's love interest in Bruno Barreto's latest offering, A view from the Top. The film is tentively scheduled for released during the second half of 2001.

Recurring Angel guest star Christian Kane - Lindsey - temporarily turns his attention from the evil machinations of Wolfram and Hart to affairs of the heart the new telemovie, Love Song. Produced for MTV, Love Song toplines the US singer Monica as Camille Livingston, a young woman whose marriage plans are turned upside down by the arrival of Kane's free-spirited musician, Billy Ryan. Love Song received it's US television debut last December.

Fresh from wrapping the upcoming big screen comedy Rat Race, Seth Green has landed a key role in another major new movie, America's Sweethearts. Expect America's Sweethearts to set hearts alight during the later part of the year.

She may not have been up against any demons or vampires, but that didn't stop Buffy Summers' real life counterpart from slaying all the competition in Cosmogirl's prestigious poll of the year. Sarah Michelle Gellar was voted the "Most Inspirational Celebrity of 2000" by the US magazine's readers, and was rewarded with a cover feature which graced Cosmogirl's December issue. Also, as this issue was going to press, news came in that Gellar has been nominated in the "Best Actress For A Drama Series" catergory in this year's prestigious Golden Globe awards. More on this next issue. Well done, Sarah!

Finally, a host of Buffy stars were called upon to demonstrate their hair flair during Salon Selectives' "See it, Do it: Celebrity challenge recent hairstyling contest. Amber Benson (Tara), Julie Benz (Darla), Elizabeth Anne Allen (Amy) and Christopher Weihl (Owen in "Never Kill A Boy On The First Date") picked up their combs and brushes last December, along with the event's other honorary hairstylists."

Good Projects!!!

CARTOON :: MARCH 18TH 2001

From BTVS magazine:

"Buffy writer/supervising producer David Fury has revealed more details of the proposed Buffy animated series. Speaking just a few months after Buffy creator/executive producer Joss Whedon exclusively told Buffy magazine that a cartoon spin-off was in the works, Fury confirmed that the project was continuing to take shape. "We're just trying to get all the people lined up and get the studio behind it," Fury told IGN Sci-Fi web site. "It's coming together, but it's a hard processto get any project together. We're just waiting for people to say, "OK, go!"

Fury also shed some light on the animated series' premise and noted that it will probably be set during the show's third season of the live-action show. "It's all the episodes you didn't see that took lace when Oz was around, and Angel and Cordy there," he explained. "So it could easily co-exist with the show.

Additional continuity between the live-action Buffy and it's animated counterpart could be provided by the original show's cast, all of whom look very likely to voice their cartoon counterparts. Fury also noted that many of Buffy's writers are set to pen episodes of the animated series. In a change from the live-action show, however, scripts for the animated Buffy will not be subject to any real budgetary restrictions.

"The sky's the limit for effects or creatures or anything else we want to do, because it's animation," explained Fury. More news on the proposed animated Buffy series as when it happens."

Hmm... Seeing Buffy in a whole new light!

THE WATCHER, PART 3 :: FEBRUARY 17TH 2001

News on stars of the show...

Taken from Buffy magazine:

"Two of Buffy's biggest stars were among a host of celebrities who did the time warp again and preformed the songs for VH1'S 25th anniversary tribute to The Rocky Horror Picture Show in October. Amber Benson (Tara) delivered a suitably bewitching rendition of a classic track, Touch-a, Touch-a Touch Me. And the man behind Rupert Giles, Anthony Stewart Head, went one better by reprising the outrageous portrayal of Dr Frank-N-Furter from a pre-Buffy Rocky Horror stage production. What would the Watcher's council say?!

Not content with becoming the centre of the Buffy-verse in the fourth season episode "Superstar", the multi talented Danny Strong (Jonathan) has successfully branched out into screenwriting. The occasional Buffy star recently had had his first script optioned by a production company. Well-Done Danny!

Buffy former Stunt co-ordinator, Jeff Pruitt, has traded the queen of Sunnydale for the queen of the jungle. Fresh from completing his fourth season stunt with the slayer, Pruitt has been appointed as the Action Unit Director of the new syndicated action series, Sheena: Queen of the jungle. Pruitt has been putting Baywatch babe turned Sheena star Geena Lee Nolan through her paces since the show's twelfth episode.

Finally, former Buffy composer Christopher Beck scored one of the biggest triumphs of his life on Friday 13th October, when he became the proud father of a baby boy, James. All at Buffy magazine send their best wishes to the Beck family!"

Well Congrats to all!

THE WATCHER, PART 2 :: FEBRUARY 17TH 2001

The latest on all the BTVS stars; from Buffy magazine:

"He may not have won Buffy Summers' heart, but Fab Filippo (Scott) has landed a leading role in the new hi-tech thriller series Level 9. The fromer Buffy love interest plays a computer hacker who joins a special government-backed unit designed to fight cyber-crime. Filippo's co-stars are Kate Hodge, Micheal Kelly, Romany Malco, Kim Murphy and Susie Park.

Prior to lodging on to Level 9, Fab Filippo played Scott Hope in Buffy's third season episodes "Faith, Hope and Trick", "Beauty and the beasts" and "Homecoming". His most recent screen assignments have included the movie Waydowntown and a recurring role in the US TV series Action.

Not content with wreaking havoc across Sunnydale, Robin Sachs (Ethan Rayne) is currently leaving viewers across the universe in tears of laughter thanks to the video release of Galaxy Quest. The hilarious sci-fi comedy features a heavily disguised Sachs as the alien warlord Saris. Don't miss it!

Finally, Sarah Michelle Gellar slayed all the competition in Maxim's magazine's "Babe/Off" contest. During the online poll, Buffy Summers' real life counterpart overcome the likes of big-screen Buffy Kristen, WWF wrestler Chyna and Star-Trek pinup Jeri Ryan to claim a place in the contest's grand final. Gellar than triumphed over Charmed star by earning a staggering 1,599,922 votes, as opposed to Milano's meagre 112,219 "hits". All hail Sarah Michelle Gellar - the ultimate babe!"

Grrreat!!!

BTVS MERCHANDISE JUST GOT SWEETER :: JANUARY 16TH 2001

The tastiest, sweetest BTVS merchandise yet... Buffy chocolate bars have gone across the US, they weigh 2.25oz and come in four yummy flavors. Xander can be seen on the front of chocolate and caramel bars, a Willow wrapper represents chocolate and peanut butter and Spike adorns the chocolate and crispies bar. The slayer herelf is on the dark-chocolate and raspberry flavor. MMM!

ACTORS SECTIONS... :: JANUARY 10TH 2001

If there is any section of The Slayer's database needed to be proliferating it has to be the Actor's section! So in the next couple of weeks I am going to give all the actors of season 5 their own webpage full of info about them! Cool, huh?

NO BRITNEY :: JANUARY 10TH 2001

THIS SEASON BTVS WILL NOT FEATURE THE POP SENSATION BRITNEY SPEARS -

From Buffy Magazine:

"Britney Spears' planned special guest appearance on Buffy has been postponed. Although the US pop senation looked set to meet the Scooby Gang in an episode of the 5th season, Spears' hectic schedule has ruled out any involvement with the show's current season.

Spears' scheduling problems were officially announced in November, but Buffy's co-executive producer Marti Noxon. Noxon also revealed that another actress would be playing the role originally emarked for Spears.

"We're still going to do the episode, we're just going to do it with someone else," Noxon told TV guide. "The idea is still valid, and we're going to go ahead with it."

Despite Spears' absence from Buffy's fifth season, her agent stated that the iconic songstress would still like to appear in the show at a later date."

Well, never mind! There's many seasons brewing a place for our "Lucky" popstar~!~

CHRISTOPHER BECK :: DECEMBER 15TH 2000

Christopher Beck has sadly left the building, or shall I say studio of Fox. Chris was the composer for Buffy and was responsible for Close Your Eyes (Becoming, Part 2). This article is partly a tribute to him but a tribute to the new composer... Thomas Wanker. Christopher Beck did the score for the opening episode of Season 5, Buffy vs. Dracula, but that is his finale score on Buffy. Working for 4 seasons he was a true composer but as the saying goes, In with the new, out with old. Thomas will do a great job, though. As for good old Angel, Robert J. Kal, the show's long-standing composer, will score Angel's second season! Bye Chris, hello Rob and Tom!

THE WATCHER, PART 1 :: DECEMBER 15TH 2000

Revelations of the Buff stars, from Buffy magazine:

"Not content with shooting the movies Harvard Man and The It Girl during Buffy's fourth season hiatus, Sarah Michelle Gellar has managed to squeeze a new small screen role into her hectic schedule. Gellar guest-stars in a mid-third-season episode of HBO's smash hit comedy series Sex and the City, entitled "Escape from New York".

The slayer's real life alter ego is also preparing to launch her own official web site. Her decision was prompted by the discovery that she inspired over 130 unauthorized sites. "Once or twice a week I hear about people pretending to be me," Gellar told Premiere magazine. "If anyone says they have my email address or they talked to me in a chat room, it's not me. And that's one of the reasons I want to launch a web site: I want people to know that there's an official place, and that's the only place I will be." Stay tuned to Buffy Magazine for further news of Sarah Michelle Gellar's official site.

Back on the big screen, Amber Benson is among the stars of The Prime Gig. Directed by Gregory Mosher, the film toplines Vince Vaughn as Pendleton wise, a fast-talking telesalesman who attempts to make his biggest sale ever on the eve of his 30th birthday. Following preview screens at the Venice International Film Festival at the 44th London Film Festival, The Prime Gig is set for a worldwide theatrical release in early 2001. Eliza Dushku, Nicole Bilderback and composer Christopher Beck must have felt like cheering in September, after their new movie Bring It On became a smash hit at the US box office. The $10 million cheerleader comedy grossed over $17 million in it's opening weekend alone, and went to went to earn over $50 million in it's first four weeks of release.

Finally, if anyone's longing to hear Principal Snyder's familiar tones once again, be sure to check out Simon and Schuster's new PC game, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Fallen. The game features former Buffy villain Armin Shimerman in his familiar Star Trek role as the Ferengi barkeeper. Quark!".

FAITH IN THE FUTURE :: NOVEMBER 20TH 2000

From Buffy magazine;

"In an announcement that will delight many viewers, Eliza Dushku has confirmed her desire to create more havoc as Faith in the new seasons of either Buffy or Angel. Dushku makes a brief appearance in Angel's Season two premiere, but s definitely up for a lot more action.

During an interview with US TV guide Magazine, Dushku revealed that she was looking forward to learning how the franchise's guiding light, Joss Whedon, will reintroduce Faith to the Buffy-verse, following the super-sexy rogue slayer arrest at the end of Angel episode "Sanctuary".

"I always joke with Joss, "I've jumped off a building, gone into a coma, being in jail. If you can find a really witty and great way to bring me back then I'll come back," she explained with a chuckle.

Dushku, however, was quick to dismiss speculation that she was set to follow in the footsteps of Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar and topline a series based on Faith's exploits.

"Sarah is one of the hardest-working women I know," Dushku pointed out. "It's such a hard job and I could never see myself having the patience to do that kind of show".

There you go! Look forward, Faith fanatics, she's back!

Charisma Carpenter was voted #35 and Alyson Hannigan came in #91, beating Demi Moore and Natasha Henstridge! Well done, ladies!

SPIN OFF SHOW :: AUGUST 6TH 2000

A lot of us have been hearing about a NEW spin off show. NOT Angel!!! It is probably about a minor character that could be Faith, Spike, Tara, Lindsey, Anya etc.

Taken from the Official Buffy magazine:

"Joss Whedon has been speaking recently about the future of the Buffy franchise. Following the enormous success of Angel's first season, Whedon firmly believes that Buffy could spawn further spin-off shows"

More will be said on the Joss Whedon INTERVIEW

MTV :: AUGUST 6TH 2000

Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) turned up to the annual MTV movie awards to win two well-known awards! Sarah won best kiss for Cruel Intentions, with Selma Blair (WB's Zoe), and best of all best female performance for Cruel Intentions!

THE SEASON ENDINGS :: JUNE 28TH 2000

TAKEN FROM THE OFFICIAL BTVS MAG:

"As Buffy the vampire slayer rocketed towards the end of it's fourth season, the show's cast really pulled out all the stops. Buffy's end of season fireworks begin with "The Yoko Factor", an unmissible tale which sees Angel making a surprise visit to Sunnydale. While Angel struggles to accept Buffy's blossoming relationship with Riley, the villainous Adam manage to enlist the help of none other than Spike to exploit the growing rift between the Scooby gang. Bad Spike! The Yoko factor takes it's title from Yoko Ono's supposed contribution to the break-up of The Beatles, and suggests a similar fate for the Scooby gang...

Picking up from the closing moments of "The Yoko Factor", "Primevil" concludes Adam's quest for global domination on a suitably epic note. When Adam unleashes an army of demons and vampires, Buffy must face these monsters in a desperate battle for survival. Billed as an action-packed adventure, "Primevil" brings the Initiative story arc to a rising climax.

In a complete change of pace, Buffy's fourth season then draws to a close with "Restless". Written and directed by Buffy supremo Joss Whedon, the episode provides an emotionally charged epilogue to the season, and offers a unique exploitation of the Scooby gang's innermost thoughts dreams, nightmares and secrets.

"Restless" firmly reunites the Scooby gang and shows Buffy, Willow and Xander learning some important lessons in life which they will carry on into the show's fifth season. The final two episodes also boast the return of several appearances of unforgettable Buffy characters: Professor Maggie Walsh and Dr. Angleman in "Primevil" and Principal Snyder in "Restless"."

IF YOU SHALL CHECK IN MY EPISODES SECTION THE YOKO FACTOR, PRIMEVIL AND RESTLESS WILL NOT BE THERE BECAUSE I AM PLANNING TO DO A PROJECT JUST FOR THEM EPISODES
