Pact With An Angel

An angel was sent to save me

To lift my spirits and to restore my faith in God

She told me how great the world was

And how much good there was in the world

I told her my story

And tears filled her eyes

I told her about the girls I had loved

And how in each case things had fallen apart

And how time had past me by

I was approaching fifty and still single

I only had a life of suffering and loneliness to look forward to

I told here that suicide was the only remaining solution

She said that I would never enter heaven if I did that

I said that I would put my soul in God's hands

If he rejected my soul I would accept my fate

The angel was so sad

She too felt like rejecting God

There was too much suffering in the real world

Life seemed so simple

Everybody was searching for happiness and love

And yet so many people lived alone and miserable

I guided the angel to a bridge

The rushing water was flowing fast far below

We both jumped and my life ended

The angel was banished from heaven

And now we wonder through the netherworld together

Condemned to isolation forever

But at least I have an angel to guide me

And give comfort to my soul in these strange times.
