6/8/00 Fans of late '60s/early '70s rock are in for a treat over the next few months, with a massive reissues campaign being planned from the Decca/Deram back catalogues. The Caravan double CD anthology 'Where But For Caravan Would I', issud a few weeks ago, is the start of the campaign, with further antholigies in preparation from both Camel and the Moody Blues. Decca/Deram will also reissue albums from the likes of Chicken Shack, Thin Lizzy and Ten Years After - as well as both Caravan and Camel - not only remastering the tarcks, but also lookin to include rare and previously unreleased material. And they will also be trawling the extensive vaults searching for cult bands and obscurities from the progressive and psychedelic genres. Jethro Tull have been awarded rights to the domain names jethrotull.com and jethro-tull.com by the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva. Tull frontman Ian Anderson filed a case in May after a Minneola, Fla., "cybersquatter" had offered to sell the sites for a total of $13,000. ANGRA - Trouble In Paradise! According to ANGRA's official website, the band have not split. Vocalist Andre Matos, bassist Luis Mariutti and drummer Ricardo Confessori have left the band. Guitarists Rafael Bittencourt and Kiko Loureiro are currently in the writing process of the band's forthcoming studio album. In the meantime, auditions are being held so that the new members of the line-up can be chosen. The Angra moniker will be maintained. More news will follow shortly. RHAPSODY's new album will be called Dawn Of Victory, and will be released through LMP in late October... QUEENSRYCHE - DeGarmo Out For Good! According to TotalRock.com, QUEENSRYCHE vocalist Geoff Tate has revealed that he wouldn't rule out working in the future with former 'Ryche guitarist Chris DeGarmo. "If Chris were interested in working with me, then I wouldn't rule it out. But right now, the way Chris feels about everything I doubt he'll want to do anything musically for a long time. but if he did ask me, then I reckon I would collaborate with him. We've done so much good stuff in the past that I feel we'd come up with something very interesting. However, that would have to be outside of Queensryche, because I can't ever see him rejoining the band." DREAM THEATER plans to record an upcoming show at New York's Roseland Ballroom for a live CD/video/DVD. This concert will feature two sets and an intermission. The band's tour, which begins August 4 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, features SPOCK'S BEARD, whose new disc V comes out August 22, as the opening act. Yes keyboardist Igor Khoroshev allegedly sexually assaulted two female security guards backstage during his band's Washington, D.C., concert Sunday. One woman told police Khoroshev bit her neck after she fended off his attempts to kiss her, while the other claimed the musician groped her and directed lewd comments at her. John Young Newsletter July/August 2000 Hello Everyone, Sorry for the delay in newsletters but we've been trying to change the system a little as I'm sure many of you will know. Firstly we have an egroup that has been running for the last month which generally covers comments and chat with regard to yours truly and related topics. This area is mainly for the more hardened members as it can lead to the odd deluge of e-mails and I know a few people have pulled out due to the volume of traffic on the site.Still if you'd like to keep up to date with the other members or ask any questions and the like then this is the place to be. Secondly ... the above area was initially planned to be the place where newsletters could be received ..however due to the volume of traffic I've decided to create a second egroup where the only mail sent will be from me.This will cover newsletters and updates and will probably be the more popular of the two areas in the long term as it will probably mean only receiving a few e-mails every month. The newsletter will transfer completely to this site within the next few months. Thirdly for those of you who have'nt noticed yet (shame on you!) we have a new official website.Doug Anderson and John Shipman have combined thier multiple talents to create a fab new site that is rapidly taking shape and will in the very near future be the main site for thier collective activities on my behalf. May I also take this opportunity to thank them for thier hard work in getting things up and running over the last months. OK so the main thing now is to give you all the details........ First e group and chat
area: http//www.egroups.com/group/johnyoung

Nothing at present Well tunes have been arriving thick and fast (where do they come from?) and I am pleased to say out of the blue a new CD has started to arrive. The new album will be called 'Significance' and will be the follow up to 'Life Underground'. At present 8 tracks are on the drawing board some of which are nearing completion. Significance is already in the live set... soon to be joined by 'Insignificance'!As you can probably guess these tracks will open and close the CD. The chorus of Significance is: I need to be strong for the weak, Cos I could make all of the difference, I need to be strong for the weak, To be of some Significance. The song is based on the life and times of my aunty, who worked for the Save the Children Fund in more wars and on more front lines than any soldier alive on the planet today. She never married but
had more children than any mother could have ...she never
carried a gun...only love... we are not worthy. Insignificance
asks the eternal question Why? .... all the words I say will
vanish without trace someday..... Hope the above whets your
appetite a little.. As for other recordings I''ve just finished
six tracks for De Wolfe for the third CD and i have another
six to do so hopefully that will be on the blocks by the early

A lot of you have been giving me collective stick about the Azores trip it had been on the cards for sometime and although these things tend to fall through at the last minute this trip went ahead as planned and so the story of our intrepid voyage begins... (at Heathrow at 7.15am ouch!) Assembling a bunch of itinerant musicians, crew and management at the aforementioned hour may seem a little hopeful to some of you but as we always have such a great time with BT nobody would miss it for the world...hence everyone was duly present and correct at 7.15am for the first flight to Lisbon. Special plaudits should go to 'Props' our legendary backline chap who got up at 4a.m. and promptly hauled an Akai S3200 (heavy) and a Roland MC500 (along with his own luggage) on a bus through London......respect. The plane for Lisbon was on schedule so all seemed well ..on arrival in Lisbon everything was delayed. Our next step was from Lisbon to Ponta Delgada in the Azores but the plane was delayed 4 hours so lunch was consumed courtesy of the airline SATA (dodgy soup followed by dodgy meat... but large amounts of undodgy beer and wine were consumed!) The flight to Ponta Delgada was lovely beautiful views of Lisbon on take off followed by nothing but ocean for two hours until the islands came into view. The Azores is made up of nine islands in mid atlantic our guide told us it is quite common to have all four seasons in one day ...this was to be only too true as the flight from Ponta Delgada was delayed for 4 hours and then cancelled altogether because of weather on the island (and a recent crash had'nt helped thier confidence much either!) So at midnight we headed into the island to a beautiful hotel which we never saw in daylight we were in bed by 2am and up at 5am to get the plane to the next island Horta. From Horta we got a ferry across to the island of Pico our final destination we arrived in time for breakfast our journey time a mere 27hours!! This was however the day of the gig so sleep was something that we could only dream of...besides several of our happy bunch would not miss the Formula One qualifying for any reason! Lunch was at one o'clock and the starter 'local prawns in hot sauce' was wonderful ..the mayor arrived and eventually so did the main course which was cold and pretty inedible the waitresses looked a tad miffed and the mayor was a little embarrased but as is usual with our lot nobody made much of a fuss. Soundcheck was scheduled for late afternoon the gig itself was taking place by the docks in a neighbouring town. With any gig that is a little out of the way compromises have to be made and one of the first things to go is the S3200 which refused to work properly during songs but worked beautifully when being checked on it's own. With everything functioning we headed off for dinner at another local restaurant the food was excellent although they insisted on bringing platefuls of 'limpets' as starters ...the English are not reknown for their culinary experimentation and so platefuls of limpets started heading across to other tables in the vicinity..but as fast as we emptied them........ Onto the gig and yes the S3200 packed up completely which was no great loss other than the fact 'Props' now wished to kick the aforementioned machine into the Mid Atlantic trench!! The gig was great the audience were up for a good time (approx 3,500 persons) and the party commenced.Highlights being the hit songs 'It's a Heartache' 'Holding out for a Hero' and 'Total Eclipse'.... I even got to do a keyboard solo. Late that night after a very long day we finally got some sleep ...everyone missed breakfast ...I nearly missed the Grand Prix ! After the race and lunch I wandered down to the pool where half our collective were gathered.Tom Lang and his girlfriend Rhiem together with David (our manager) and his wife,Mark Scrimshaw (lights),Matt Davis (tour manager) and Matt Prior (gtr) had gone Whale watching which comes highly recommended in these parts. The malingerers stayed by the pool and myself and Herr Schwimbadd (or Ed Poole) decided to start up the usual comedy routine.Captain Bastardos the errant Cuban dictator and airline entrepreneur (or me) had already made an appearance on the 5am coach to the airport the previous morning so a new identity of two nuns who talk with very high pitched Irish voices began I was Sister Matic, Ed was Sister Sledge we invented a few others Sister Emancipatia and the like ...and Props became Father Props.Bonnie videod the whole scenario and it was hilarious (but i guess you had to be there!). During the afternoon a mostly border collie sheepdog turned up at the pool and we called him 'Dave' and adopted him for the day.... I smuggled a steak sandwich out to him later that evening which he happily devoured. We trolled into town after dinner (with Dave in tow) and befriended various bar owners until the early hours. An early departure beckoned but still tour madness reigned on the early morning ferry Ed descended into being a nun again.Portugal being heavily catholic shows many signs of it's religious fervour as such on entering the ferry a large picture of Jesus was encountered. Ed turned to me and in his best nuns voice said ' Whose that then sister...my he's a gorgeous looking boy!' So I spent the rest of the voyage explaining the principals of Christianity to Sister Sledge! At Horta airport (which is tiny) there were three check in desks two were being used for our flight to Lisbon and one was free....Props supplied me with an idea and within moments an Air Bastardos check in desk was in action with a somewhat predictable set of passengers forming a disorderly queue to receive the usual lambasting from our beloved Captain.(me!) As usual this BT excursion
was loads of fun and I'd like to thank all those involved
for making it so. The Azores is well worth the effort if anyone
fancies a holiday in a fabulous place away from the tourist
trail. The views on the islands were gorgeous especially the
volcano on Pico.I would love to go again one day..... DE WOLFE SITE E-GROUPS NEW SITE!
