These use either scanned test beam with the response collected and analysed, or a continuous lighting system with a scanned detector system.

Examples of this type of product designed by DIVERSE include:

  • Architectural dye line scanner, used to digitize master and dye line drawings at any size to a maximum of A0. With the bitmap acquired, the system then vectorises it to produce drawing entities for Autocad. The system traverse is arranged to work in conjunction with the head of a conventional pen plotter and uses profiled LED array illumination.

  • Finance receipt scanner. A small receipt item is scanned and inferences made about the text and its colour.

  • Tachograph scanner. These commercial vehicle event recorders produce timings of events on the vehicle on a circular medium.

  • Seismic events scanner. The input data of charts showing seismic responses to surface explosions have important acoustic reflection highlighted in colour. The scanner is used to record only those parts of the seismic record that are marked.

  • Film master scanner. This complex system is used to digitise motion picture film masters, for the re-mastering process. The scanner was very high resolution with high colour fidelity and illumination. The high resolution and large number of images required high illumination levels in order to attain reasonable throughput.

  • Bottle Inspection scanner. Diverse has designed a number of on-line glass bottle inspection systems. These use area scanners and high speed video analysis to identify bottles with manufacturing faults. Complex illumination and imaging with high depth of field were important aspects of our design.
