Diffraction Limited Doublet Who guards the guards? All todays mass produced lenses are manufactured to the highest quality standards with batch sampling used to confirm their conformance. The basis of this testing is the eponymous MTF bench which can accurately measure resolution and performance. At the centre of this measuring system is a highly collimated light beam that provides the apparent "source at infinity" condition which is needed for the test. Diverse has designed an air spaced doublet for this application. DIVERSE lens design. Such a large diameter lens is difficult to make because the tolerances are tight; Diverse worked closely with Optical Surfaces, who have unique skills in this type of work, to produce the finished lens. The lens and MTF bench were eventually shipped to Japan where the system is used so that the Japanese can export thousands of them.
