Haggis 2001 Report
This section contains a report and pictures from the se7ens list tour to Scotland in 2001: The Haggis Hunt. This was a long weekend of touring over the empty twisties of Scotland. It was such a success that we're going to do it next year as well!
Day 1 - Thursday 10th May 2001 - Getting oop north Pack leave at 11 Services at 12 - Mick, Trevor, no Simon Birmingham Allan's hotel - Punch Bowl at M6 J38 Miles today: about 300 Day 2 - Friday 11th May 2001 - Let the hunt commence Meet at M6 J41 Nig at next services Nig, Vinnie and I in front up the M6,M74,M8 Weather becoming ACE! Erskine Bridge Rhu/RNCYC - loads there <= fuel stops etc newspapers header tank caps, shirts, hello, routebooks etc twisty, hilly cold drinks The best road in the world Bridge of Orchy cheap drinks game 106 Steve W and I Kings House Hotel inna big bowl my kitty big meal more beers outside inside - some went off to play Miles today: about 230 Day 3 - Saturday 12th May 2001 - Come hither yee Haggis Aideen steering rack where are my skis Cruise a bit then open up Found Vinnie cooperative - explain Memorial - JE oil leak, locals hate us Ben Nevis, Aonach Mor Ross, No Speedo Mick is fast Loads of scattered sevens on route and sod all else Skye No Skye - too knackered, fettle, cup final, beer speedo, tyres Steve W: bearings, camber, swap tyres, mallet to clear calipers Trevor: clutch hydraulics exploded explain Gavin/Ross DA died very nice meal - wanted ALL the menu. had B&B pudding again... party with the band, kilts Miles Today: 106 Day 4 - Sunday 13th May 2001 - In pursuit of the beastie high speed Cruise back from Sky fog on the loch Darren somehow caught up Urquart castle A9 slowly And we're off chasing Andy Ish separated at pretol station Off I go - past a slow group Z3 waves at me til I get past Meet Darren,Andy,Nig who have met a local Healys Nig hits a smelly Grand Prix at Pitlochry more B&B pud Everybody goes the wrong way on the single track stuff Passed Roy and led Simon Parker and others JB7 towards me - do it again! Kenmore Hotel Pictues by the River yet more B&B pud The Haggis strikes back Big drinking feed the dog guiness Miles Today: about 250 Day 5 - Monday 14th May 2001 - Where are thou humble haggis Off slowly with Roy and Nig and Sandy/Angie Darren and Andy blast blast - Nig and I follow Got split up again and a bit lost Darren and I push started each other wheel spin out of station <= caravan JB7 avoid speed trap Ross SMS us from van/control centre Trossachs Erskine Bridge RNCYC cam7 ride again cam7 swim again Miles Today: about 540 For the hammering the cars got they all performed pretty well. The failures I can think of were: Wheel bearings, starters, clutch hydraulics, speedo drive I'd like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Jonathan and Helen for putting together a great Tour. It was so good that we've demanded that theydo another :) Also thanks to those whose pictures I've stolen :) Mainly Darren's but a few others. I've bought my own digital camera for Euro2001!
