The building of Lincoln Cathedral was begun in 1072. Over the centuries various calamities such as being destroyed by fire in 1141, an earthquake in 1185, the collapse of the central tower in 1237 and its spire blown down in 1548 means the building you see today  has changed somewhat from its original design. Work continues to preserve the fabric of the building for the enjoyment of future generations.
