Two panels on the octagonal
font have Green Man carvings. The one above depicts foliage sprouting
from the mouth.
This Green man has to be one
of my favourites, he almost disappears depending on the angle. The
disgorged leaves coming forwards to dominate the face.
St. Peter's Thurston. The
font which is 14th century was severely damaged in Victorian times when
part of the church roof collapsed onto it. It was restored and conceals
it's past well showing no sign of it's damage.
