wpeD.jpg (53790 bytes) Distinct eastern influence in this Green Man from the roof in the main aisle. Note the stylized leaves.
wpeA.jpg (77366 bytes) Above the west porch exterior on the frieze below the sundial is this example.
wpe17.jpg (77003 bytes) A pair of binoculars is recommended for viewing the Green Man roof boss carvings.
wpe8.jpg (123435 bytes) As with the example above the carving extends well into the surrounding timbers.
The medieval faces above with the exception of the exterior frieze are of the type of Green Man which are..
..'faces in the leaves' that is, vegetation does not exude from the mouth, nose, ears etc.

St. Peter's, Sudbury is another 'redundant'  church under the protection of The Churches Conservation Trust. It was not originally a parish church but a chapel of ease, that is more 'accessible' to parishioners than a conventional church. The present church of St. Peter dates from 15th century and is in the style of architecture known as  middle perpendicular.

The church is kept locked, but the key can be obtained from a nearby shop.
