St. Nicholas, Blakeney

St. Nicholas, Blakeney is a haven for the Green Man. Victorian restoration has added some fine woodcarving and it is here where most of the Green Man carvings are to be found. You may find binoculars useful for examining the roof bosses. Two are shown above and there are others (in the nave).

During 13th century a Carmelite friary was established at Blakeney and St. Nicholas church and the parish church's roots are connected to that. During the Reformation St. Nicholas church suffered as did many churches from the attention of the Puritans who smashed icons and defaced many of the decorative features, screens, statues etc.

Apart from the Green Man there is a feeling of being welcome in St. Nicholas. There are facilities for making hot drinks even when volunteers are not available and the tower is opened  occasionally for visitors.
