2003 Some Information

Recording:   We have an all-time figure (end 2002) of some 3,250 RA70's or RA70 equivalents (using Darter, with our own site reference numbers),
the main run of RA70's went to the "Welsteads".All info is in a separate copy of Darter.

The Darter only records ,against a separate set of site numbers ,that have gone to Steve Cham's Data Base, totalled 1,216 at the end of 2002.

Much of this data, relating to the Basingstoke Canal goes as copies of our work-sheets to

Chris Hall at Fleet, who now has 15 years continuous data from us.

Hampshire Records

If anyone has any dragonfly records for Hampshire could you please let me know so that I can pass them onto local recorders. John Taverner is producing an atlas of the Dragonflies of Hampshire and we want to include as many recent records as possible.
There is also the challenge to be the first to find the Small Red Eyed Damselfly in Hampshire. It has to be there as it all around. There are now hundreds of sites in southern and east England. It just needs people to get out and look. I found six sites in Bedfordshire last year so it has penetrated well inland. It could be on the wing soon although it is most likely mid to late July.
Happy hunting
Cheers

Further to Steve Cham's message, here are a few more details of the Hampshire dragonfly project:

The Dragonflies of Hampshire

Recording is currently under way for a book on Hampshire's dragonflies, due to be published in autumn 2004. Various members of the British Dragonfly Society are involved in this, under John Taverner's editorship, and this is the last year of fieldwork for the atlas maps that will form part of the book.

Hampshire Wildlife Trust is working with BDS and the Environment Agency to promote this project, and we are trying to collect together as many records as possible this year. If you already send your records to BDS there is no need for any further action, but if you haven't yet sent in records we'd love to hear from you. You can either send them to me at the Wildlife Trust, or if you are already in touch with BDS they can go to Steve Cham (national recorder) or Peter Allen (Hants recorder). If you use a database such as MapMate or the BDS "Darter" database then we should be able to swap records directly, please contact me about this.

I can supply a couple of Word documents we produced for this project, a recording sheet and a Hants checklist. If you have detailed breeding records then BDS also use a more detailed "RA70" recording card, available from BDS.

Please get in touch if you have any questions,
