BUTTERFLIES  & MOTHS  with some Pictures

RECORDING OF BUTTERFLY SIGHTINGS IS A WORTHWHILE OCCUPATION ,

Records of what you see in your garden,in the local park,in the local churchyard or out in the country are all of value.

Please tell your local recorder what you have seen, how many, where and when.

There are already previous measurements showing the decline in Butterflies since the end of the Last War,and the move to chemical assisted farming.

Some notes on local species.

Marsh Fritillary at Norris Bridge, beside the Basingstoke Canal was presumably an overflow from Eelmoor Marsh and has now disappeared.

Brown Argus at Bourley Camping Grounds did not seem to survive the excessive mowing. The grass is now mown to leave a strip around the edge of the sections but it hasnt been recovered as yet.

White Admiral remains difficult to locate and photograph.Whilst Purple Emperor,on local sites, tends to be a binocular sighting.

Both Pearl and Small Pearl Bordered Fritillaries have not been observed recently as previously cleared sites have become overgrown and are no longer suitable.

The Dingy and Grizzled Skippers at Lakeside seem to be a tenuous population, which may have come from another source.
