We are a small
active group, both politically and socially.
We attend various political meetings throughout the
south west.
Socially we hold functions throughout the year - both
for the Conservative Party and for charity - and also
support other branches, as well as the Yeovil
Constituency Association, in their functions.
The Shadow Defence spokesman, Dr Liam Fox, visited Yeovil on 25 May 2008 and we attended a dinner at which he was the speaker.
He had just returned from the USA and he told us that there are some striking activities going on in the rest of the world, which don’t get reported. He also said that our defence budget is inadequate.
Our Comments on the News
We extend our congratulations to all the Conservative seat winners and their teams of workers up and down the country - and of course to Boris!
Now we have to expect the Labour backlash.
This will no doubt focus on expressing their hatred of a potential Conservative government and trying to terrify the electorate.
Labour has managed employment levels by packing central government departments to inefficient levels. Here in the West Country, the LibDems do the same sort of thing at county and district level.
Conservatives in power will need to address this inefficiency, which many government and local government employees will see as putting their jobs in jeopardy.
This is the Labour backlash factor which for we must now be prepared. It is still a long haul back to power; this week's results are a foundation on which to build.
