The falls on the River Einion at Furnace, as viewed from the road
bridge. I've read that the falls are not natural, but were created for the
express purpose of feeding the water wheel. |

The old blast furnace was built in 1755 to produce pig iron, using
iron ore probably shipped in from Cumbria, and local charcoal. The furnace was
abandoned by 1810, and converted into a sawmill: the wheel dates from this
period. |
