Derwenlas

At one stage Derwenlas was a busy little river port with two quays - Cei (Quay) Ward, Cei (Quay) Ellis - where ships were built and from where slate was shipped from the quarries in Aberllefeni and Corris via Machynlleth, initially using horses to pull the slate along a tramway, and latterly using steam power as far as Mach.

There's some interesting detail on Derwenlas School, with extracts from its old logbooks, at http://history.powys.org.uk/history/mach/derwen1.html

In later years another moment of fame: a member of 60's band "Marmalade" lived here for a time. Just thought you'd like to know.
