baggage and selfharm

This Dyke's theory on positive thought, or how to put self harm behind you.

Now this Dyke is getting more and more crunchy in her outlook on life as she gets older, but she figures that this is no bad thing. By 'crunchy' she means that some might consider her slightly off the wall though she doesn't ascribe to anything like Feng Shui, religion or any specific form of spirituality. (She always did have a slight problem with organised 'religions' and doctrines.) So This Dyke has formed her own theory of the Universe based on what she has read, things her friends have said and things that she has thought.

Central tenet of Dyke Theory on life

You are in control of your own life. There is no high power directing your life. If you want to make changes you are the only one who can do that. This Dyke realises that at times it is difficult to believe that you can turn you life around but every small step helps you get nearer your goal. Sometimes you might make a detour but if you keep at it and believe in yourself (the hardest part at times) then you can do it. You have got to have faith in yourself, for if you do not believe in yourself how can you expect others to? That is not to say that they wont and if they do then you better pay attention to what they say. Trust your friends, if they are good friends.

If you want to be happy then the only way that is going to happen is if you start being happy. Don't focus on the negative, look around you and marvel at all the good that is there. I could say:- my back hurts, I work night shifts, I never get to play pool. Or else I could focus on the rest of my body which is fine. The fact that I only work three or four nights a week and the rest of the time is my own, I regularly get four day weekends. I might not play pool much at the moment but I do get to row and train six days a week, and that is my choice and I love it. I love the way, no matter what the weather is like, the sky is always beautiful and clouds are great and on my night shift I can see the stars.

Consider:- Every rowing outing has patches which could be improved and patches which are an improvement. Now if I focused on the bits that were bad, I would walk away from that outing pissed off and annoyed. But when I focus on good bits, and the fact that we have improved and that it was fun, I leave happy that I was there, happy that I got up so early (or haven't gone to sleep yet) cos I saw the sunrise and I had a good outing where I achieved something, because I improved somehow. Now both are the same reality but I try not to dwell on the negative version of my life, cos you have to think, 'what is the point?'

You live your life once so savour every moment and refuse to live in the negative.

You may think how can just think in the positive change anything? Because fundamentally, no matter how you look at it. If you focus on the bad and the negative you will only ever see the bad, however if you open your mind up to the positive you will be surprised at the results.

Believe in yourself. What have you got to lose?
