"Tell me what you plan to
do with your one wild and very precious life?" ~Mary Oliver
The
Story Of Coaching
Devoted to celebrating life
through compassionate living, coaching is closely
regarded as mentoring and has been a way of human
life through the ages. Perhaps one of the more
original examples of a coach as mentor is in
Homer's Odyssey. Mentor, a trusted friend of
Odysseus, King of Ithica, served as teacher and
overseer of Odysseus's son, Telemachus, when
Odysseus went to fight in the Trojan war. When
that war was over and Telemachus and Odysseus
were reunited, Mentor was praised and recognised
as having fulfilled a task for which Odysseus was
forever grateful. The word "mentor" has
gradually come to mean "trusted person,
informal coach, wise advisor, teacher, friend,
sponsor, safe guide, example."
Coaches, as mentors, model the
way for us through their humanity, competence and
caring, and help us develop our optimal pathways
through life. They are a source of inspiration
and are gifted in areas where others need and
want to gain expertise.
The
Story Of "You"
Getting in touch with who you
are and the value of who you've become used to be
a time-consuming, personally costly and
frustrating experience. Focusing on yourself was
considered frivolous, a waste of time ~
unnecessary. Thanks to the personal discovery
advancements in development resources that have
been created over the years, the process of
knowing your value in the world has become much
simpler. Your talents, inherent skills,
preferences, lifestyle needs and even your whims
have never been easier to discover.
With self-discovery, though,
comes responsibility ~ the call to do something
special with what you've created in yourself.
This may mean a new standard of success, a career
or lifestyle change, a new or enhanced
relationship. These changes are all valid and
worthwhile because every part of you is worth
further developing.
Does Any
Of This Sound Like You?
- You have extremely high
standards for yourself, and for those
around you.
- You are committed to being
successful and you want to be the very
best at what you love to do.
- You don't often take time
for yourself and sometimes grow weary
with all you need to do in life.
- People often tell you that
you're creative. Or clever. Or
resourceful. Or Inspiring.
- Once you've achieved
something, you're already on to the next
thing in life.
- You want to feel inspired.
Passionate about your work. Deep
satisfaction with life.
- Fear of what other people
think of you or your decisions sometimes
stops you in your tracks.
If any of these statements are
true for you, then you are like many people
honourably trying to navigate a fulfilling life.
A Professional Life Coach can help you discover
and market the brand, "YOU", by helping
you understand exactly where you are in your life,
and then charting the course to exactly where you
want to be.
