Speed Control Line

Flying control line models is an ideal entry into flying model aircraft, since entry level planes are very cheap and easy to learn the basics on. There are also a lot of different classes of competition which can be entered, varying from outright speed events, graceful aerobatics, combat and carrier deck. These can all competed at different levels depending on your skill.

An example of two different speed models is shown above. The left hand one is a typical speed model with an asymmetric design. The right hand one is called a phantom racer and was originally designed as a trainer model, but with a more powerful engine is now used as a standard for a class of competition.

This is an example of a larger speed model from the 2.5cc class, with slight damage after hitting the ground at 194mph. These aircraft use very specialist engines which like any performance engine have a very limited life span. They use a single bladed propellor with a counter weight to give maximum efficiency.
