THE BULMER PEDIGREE I have examined about sixteen different descents of the House of Bulmer, and as considerable confusion exists amongst them, particularly in the early period, I confess my inability, without further assistance from Archaeologists, to compile a pedigree showing the exact relationships of the various members whose names are entered in ancient Records. The following list will show where they are to be found: Burke's "Dormant and Extinct Peerage". Hutchinson's "History of Durham". Graves' "History of Cleveland". The Herald's Visitations of Durham contain six Pedigrees of Bulmer of Tursdale and the Yorkshire Visitations, four Pedigrees. The Chartularies of Whitby Abbey, and those of Gyseburne (now Guisbrough), and Helaugh Priories, which are part of the Publications of the Surtees Society, translated by W. Brown, Esq., of Allerton Ingledew Hall, give the names of several generations of the Wilton Bulmers, which, as they are taken from the original charters, must be assumed to be correct. It will be necessary to describe some of these pedigrees in detail, to show where they differ.
