Week 40 plus some
Thanks to everybody who attended the Presentation Dinner on Wednesday evening, which was I think for the majority was a successful night. A special vote of thanks to
for not only doing the presentations but also organizing the Trophies and getting them to the
.
The web site has had over
hits this season which I find very gratifying, so thanks to all the league members who regularly look in.
One other thing I announced at the AGM last year that this would be my last season as secretary, well I am sorry to disappoint you, having realized that I have been doing this job for 23 years I have decided to continue to see if I can make it to 25.
I will put some of the seasons stats on before long and a reminder about the AGM date.
One last thing next season I will not be maintaining this dial-up site, because it takes so long and crashes so often, everybody will have to look at my broadband site address as follows
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/errol.maclaran/
Week 40
Well that's it, another season over.
He's only been in the job a week, so I suppose it's not fair to blame the new Chief Mechanic, but with the scratch average game coming out at 168.0 which is the lowest since week 1, there has to be some reason. I don't believe that it's because people weren't trying, the number of "200's" was the lowest of the whole season at 16 and as for the number of "600's" well!! 1 , I don't ever remember in all the time that I have been keeping records, that there was only 1 six hundred.
Week 39
What a contrast after saying how good the condition was last week you could certainly tell it was half term again. Nearly 5 pins off the scratch average game this week down to 171.1 and the "200's" didn't fare any better down to 24 and that was the lowest since week 24 but surprisingly the number of "600's" held up at 5 .
Thank goodness we only have one more week to go, I just hope that the new Chief Mechanic spends the time during our summer break sorting out the machine maintainence, bad pin spotting and oil carry down before we start again in September.
Thanks to everybody for filling in the forms last week and don't forget next Wednesday is the last chance to pay for your guests at the Presentation do.
Week 38 Part 2
Thanks to all the bowlers who took part in Tournament on Sunday and congratulations to the winner
, all the details are on the Tournament page.
Last weeks stats, I think that the lane condition must have been a bit better because the scratch average game went up to 175.9 the best for some weeks , the number of "200's" also showed an increase, going up to 43 and not to be out done the number of "600's" went up as well to 9 , there I think that'll do.
Don't forget to think about the
, whether your team is bowling again next season and paying for your guest tickets for the presentation.
Week 38
Sorry but all my usual comments will have to wait this week as I am trying to get all the Tournament bits and bobs ready. All the graphics have been updated and for anyone whose interested the first round draw is on the tournament page. See you down the bowl Mac
Week 37
Another week when the scratch average game stayed about the same as last week at 173.8 and although the number of "200's" was down to 27 the fact that there was a postponement could have had some effect on the number. There were 5 "600's" this week and the best game of the week was by
with a
.
With only 3 weeks to go anybody bringing guests to the presentation do needs to pay the £24 per head to Steve before the league finishes.
Week 36
The tournament is now fully booked all 32 places have been paid for, to the 3 people how put their name on the entry form but didn't pay, I'm sorry but somebody else did.
Only 4 weeks to go and I will soon be wanting to know your intentions for next season and your nomination for Sports Personality of the year.
Back the stats the scratch average game dropped 2 pins this week to 173.6 , and the "200's" fell as well to 33 but the number of "600's" went up to 8 the highest for ages, so obviously a few people found the lanes OK while the rest of us struggled.
The special mentions this week are
with a
game and a
series,
with a
and
with a
.
Week 35
An excellent response to the tournament 26 paid up entries already, I expect that there will be a scramble for the 6 remaining place next Wednesday.
The response to my request for e-mails about which web site you were using and whether you were having any trouble or not was disappointing with only one league member bothering to reply.
Another week when the scratch average game came out at 175.7 , with 37 "200's" with 6 of them over 230, 6 "600's" and 1 "700". The best games and series were by
with a
game and a
series closely followed by
with a
game and a
series .
Week 34
Another week when people are complaining about the condition with threats of them not bowling next season if it does not improve. I understand their frustration at not being able to bowl to their usual high standards, in fact I am far from happy at being 7 pins down on average from last season, but when I work the league average game for this week I find that it is up nearly 1 pin this week to 175.98 which means that this is the 9th week out of 10 that it has been in 175-177 range.
Now about the web site, after saying last week that I was having trouble getting the old site to update, I had created a duplicate site with a new address and cured all of the problems on the old one by Monday. It was a bit frustrating to be told Wednesday evening the old one was still out of date and that people could not access the new one, because when I tried them both on Thursday morning they were both working prefectly? If anybody else is having trouble please e-mail me at emac.major@lineone.net and let me know even if your not having any trouble please e-mail me and let me know which site you are using.
I hope you all read the newsletter, if not click on Newsletter
Week 33
There was a number of complaints about the lane condition this week but surprisingly, when I worked out the scratch average game it was only down 1.5 of a pin on last week to 175.05 , which actually means that it is the eighth week out of nine that the scratch average game has been within the 175-177 range. So I think that means, that it is a very consistent condition that is being put down, and that the complaints about the patchyness and the difference between a pair of lanes is more a result of pre league usage than anything else.
Anyway back to other stats, the number of "200's" was up to 33 and there was 7 "600's", both of those numbers are above their weekly average, but only 2 of the "200's" managed to break 230 and there was nothing of any note amongst the "600's". I suppose I ought to mention that we passed the
mark for "200's" for the season, there has been 1019 so far.
I have been having trouble with uploading my files again, so I have put everything onto a new site http://homepage.ntlworld.com/errol.maclaran/
I will continue to try and keep the old one updated but it is taking so long and causing so much trouble that I am getting fed up with it.
I will try and get a newsletter out this week to let everyone know about the tournament entrys.
Week 32
Hi everyone, I take it as there were no complaints about the web site this week that you were all able to gain access OK?.
After last weeks drop in the average game this week it returned to the level that it has been lately, 176.5 which was a bit of a surprise because the number of "200's" was the same as last week at 31 but the number of "600's" was only up 1 to 4
Now for the special mentions, 5 games over 230 this week, starting with a 236 , 3 245's and the best from
with a 264 , the best "600" was a 634 .
Week 31
Hi everyone, first apologies about the problems of last week, which were caused by me changing to broadband, because I had been told that I didn't need to change any of my settings to continue using the internet as before, well that is fine for surfing but it's not true about uploading files via an FTP program, I have to use my old slow Dial-up connection, but the trouble was that it took me 3 days to find this out.
Anyhow enough of that back to the stats, you can tell that it's school holidays again because after 6 weeks of maintaining a scratch average game of 176 this week it dropped 5 pins to 171.25 which showed in the facts of only 3 "600's", 31 "200's" and only 3 games over 230. Best game of the week was a 247 by
and the best set was from
with a 650.
Week 30
Yes that's right week 30, ¾ of the way through the season. What a terrific week score wise, 2 "700's" , 6 "600's" and 38 "200's" and the scratch average game stayed within the same 2 pin range that it has done for the past 6 weeks at 177.02 .
Now for a list of the big achievers, first
with a
series and
with a
and now for the high games
with a
,
and
with a
and finally
with a
were among the 9 games over 230.
Week 29
Hi everybody, it's the fifth week that the scratch average game stayed in the 174-176 range, 175.9 was the actual figure. The number of "220's" went up slightly this week to 34 and while there were no particularly big games there was 8 in 230-240 range. The number of "600's" stayed at the weekly average of 6 , the 3 best were
from
and a
by
and last but not least
from
.
I hope everybody saw the newsletter Newsletter I am sorry that I did not print off enough copies for 1 each and for the mistake about the Dinner date this one is correct.
Week 28
Hi everybody, in spite of one member of the league complaining to the management about the lane condition, the league scratch average game came out at 176 for the third week out of four, the actual figure was 176.6 which is only .3 of a pin down on last week. The figure of 176.6 is actually 2 pins up on the seasons average game of 174.5 which suggests to me that he was blaming the condition instead of his own inability to adjust to it. If he wanted difficult conditions he should have tried bowling on lanes 7 & 8, where after last weeks debacle, they had polished the left hand side of 8 so that it was impossible to keep your footing if you were a left hander or trying to spare a ten pin, at least 2 bowlers have reported back strains as a result.
Enough moaning back to the stats 31 "200's" again this week but the number of "600's" fell to 4 . There were 7 games over 235 with 256 and 249 being the best and
rolling a
series.
Week 27
Another week when the lane condition didn't seem to bad judging by the scratch average game which came in at 176.9 , the only problem was the sticky approach on lane 8, which even after 20 minutes cleaning, was still unbowlable and resulted in the teams having to wait for a spare pair of lanes to become available and it was 10.30 before they finished bowling. The problem of no slide on lane 8 was still there Thursday night when they had to switch 2 four man teams to another pair of lanes!!!!
Any way back to the stats, as I've already said the scratch game was up 2 pins on last week but the number of "200's" fell 1 to 31 and there was no change in the number of "600's" at 6 .
Week 26
Well the computer system seems to be holding up and the lane condition didn't seem to bad this week ( OK I know not everybody will agree with me ), but the scratch average game held up quite well and thats what tells me how the majority got on with it. So what can I find to moan about well it was a bit warm, it might be nice in shirt sleeves on the control desk but it's to blinking hot on the lanes and it winter outside so what's it going to be like when it warms up out there?
Any way back to the stats, the scratch average game was down a bit to 174.9 and the "200's" dropped this week to 32 but thats still above the weekly norm, the "600's" came in at the normal 6 .
It's a position round again next week and I have got the dates for the Tournament and the Presentation Do, I will put them in a newsletter in the next week or two, so don't ask.
Week 25
I have updated Graphics and will add comments later.
Sorry about the delay, had some things to do. Well after a couple of bad weeks the lane condition seemed to be a lot better on Wednesday night. It was just a pity that they were still having problems with the computer system and that they have lost all the past history, still Greg is trying very hard to get it working for the rest of the season.
Back to the statistics, the scratch average game jumped 5 pins to 176.5 and needless to say the number of "200's" shot up as well to 37 and there were 7 "600" series as well, so you can see what I mean when I say that the lane conditions were a lot better.
I know that a lot of you were told that you all have new ID numbers, but because of the schedule mix up, you did not get to use them but next week if you need to change your teams playing order you will have to. I will do my best to make sure that every team has a list of their players numbers. I will also try and get a newsletter out to remind anybody that does not get on to the web site.
Sorry to the bowlers of the week but the standing sheet down the bowl was not altered.
Week 24
My what a fun night Wednesday was, what with the computer system not working properly and half term lane conditions. it was certainly a night to forget. Thanks to everybody for their help with the game scoring it was like going back to china graph scoring. As I write this I believe that the bowls computer system is back on track so next week should be back to normal.
Anyway back to the stats, the scratch average game was the worst since week 3 at 171.05 and although the number of "200's" went up to 23 thats still seven down on the weekly average, the league only managed 3 "600's" and thats only half the weekly norm.
Week 23
Hi Everybody, another week where the condition beat the majority of our bowlers, after last weeks highs it's back to the doldrums again this week, a drop of 6.4 pins in this weeks scratch average game to 172.4 . I suppose it's about time I realized that the bowl are not interested in putting down a consistent condition, they just want to do as little work as possible for as bigger return as possible because Joe Public doesn't complain, it's just the leagues and if we ignore them long enough maybe they'll go away seems to be their attitude.
That's enough moaning back to the stats, obviously it's no surprise that with the scratch average game falling the number of "200's" went the same way to 21 , that's 14 down in a week and the league only managed 4 "600's".
There's a copy of the Newsletter on the appropriate page for anybody who didn't see it at the bowl.
Week 22
I have received a very nice letter from Brenda Trimmer expressing her gratitude for the floral tribute that the league sent to Toms funeral. I was unable to attend myself but Jumbo said that the crematorium was packed to overflowing and that the amount of flowers was phenomenal !!!
Last Wednesdays bowling, the scratch average game showed a considerable improvement this week jumping 4.5 pins a game to the seasons 2nd highest figure of 178.9 . The number of "200's" not surprisingly also improved to 35 , there was nothing over 250 but there were10 over 230 , but surprisingly the number of "600's" only made the weekly average of 6 .
That will do for this week, I should have a Newsletter out Wednesday, I will put it online when it's done.
Week 21
Comments later. Sorry about the delays with the updating of the site but problems with the uploads crashing and me working sunday and an early start on monday meant that I wasn't able to sort it out till today. I've resent the problem pages and had a look them, I think they are OK now.
Right last weeks details, the scratch average game went up slightly to 174.2 but the number of "200's" fell back to 26 , the number of "600's" stayed at about the weekly average at 5 . The weeks best game was a
by
and there were 4 other games of over 250 well done to them as well.
Week 20
First the Presentation Venue vote result TOLGATE 32, WINDSOR HOUSE 19
Yet another week where the conditioner thats being put down led to a low average scratch game of 173.5 , I use the term "conditioner" lightly because the thick greasy deposit that is coming back on the ball after each delivery, that spreads around the surface of the ball instead of wiping off and thereby affects how your ball reacts because it's not as clean as it should be. Last Friday I put my spare ball away without cleaning only to be greeted when I opened my locker on Wednesday with glistening oil slick stripe that had not evaporated away in the five days that the ball had been in there. I digress back to Wednesdays stats the number of "200" games improved to 33 it was a similar story with the "600's" they doubled to the weekly average of 6 .
The Major League has sent a floral tribute to Tom Trimmers funeral, I am sure that if any Individual members wanted to attend their presence would be appreciated.
Week 19
First details of the arrangements for the funeral of Tom Trimmer , 1pm Monday 23rd January at the Worthing Crematorium. The Major League will sending a wreath on behalf of all the members.
Another week where the condition thats being put down led to a low average scratch game, up slightly to 173.4 . The number of "200's" tumbled to 25 and thats 6 below the weekly average, the situation was no different in the "600's" only 3 and thats half the weekly average.
Thanks to the team captains who attended the meeting last week, it's a shame that it's still not clear what the majority want to do with the arguments about how to decide on the menu of a possible new venue. As it is getting close to the time when a booking has to be made, I will have to put out a voting slip so that everybody can have their say in where we go.
Week 18 Part 2
Tuesday January 10th. I have learned today of the death of a founder member and former secretary of the Major League Mr Tom Trimmer . I understand that complications from Pneumonia that developed from long standing illness was the cause. It is with regret that I find it nesseccary to pass on this information and my sympathy and best wishes to his brother Jumbo, who I understand will be bowling Wedneday evening.
Week 18
Another bad week for the scratch average game down another pin to 172.5 , still hopefully now that the kids are back at school that should be the end of the " School Holiday condition ".
The number of "200's" dropped as well to 31 still at least that's the weekly average and with the number of "600's" making par at 7 I suppose that like last week some bowlers adapted to the conditions better than others.
I will be e-mailing or phoning all the team captains to alert them that there will be a team Captains meeting after bowling this week to discuss the Presentation venue and just in case anybody forgets I will send a reminder along the lanes and have it announced on Wednesday.
I sometimes wonder if there's anybody out there, but with between 50 and 100 hits every week, somebodys looking at the site and a bit of feedback now and again would be nice even if you don't agree OK , that's all from me.
Week 17
I said it last week and I'll say it again "What a difference a week makes ", from the 2nd best game to the lowest since week 5 !!!!, a drop of 5 pins in the scratch average game to 173.1 . The number of "200's" dropped to 36 which is above the weekly average and the "600's" total of 6 was about par, so I suppose some bowlers adapted to the conditions better than others.
I still think that the pre league usage must have had some effect, because when I arrived at 7.15, out of the 18 lanes we use 3 pairs had equal numbers on both lanes, 1 pair were not in use and the remaining 5 pairs had between 1 and 6 people on one lane out of 2 !!!.
Now it's not rocket science but surely equal usage of lanes after dressing makes for a more balanced break down of conditioner, especially the pair with 6 on one lane, 3 on each makes much more sense?. OK so you've guessed which pair I was on, it was like bowling on a different planet and no I wasn't full of christmas spirit perhaps I'd have bowled better if I had been.
We will be calling a team captains meeting soon to discuss the Presentation venue.
Week 16
Thanks to the
team for taking part and while nobody bowled badly we were again beaten by the bigger handicap teams having a particularly good game here and there. The team bowled the highest total pinfall of the entire tournament but could only manage 6th place with 6 points out if a possible 12, but second place in the four man team was some consolation.
What a difference a week makes, a "700" series, 43 "200's", 7 "600's" and the scratch average game up to 178.3 .
Congratulations to
for his
series thats the 6th this season. The 43 "200's" is the highest weekly total so far this season and moves the weekly ave. up to 30, and the 178.3 is the second best weekly scratch game this season.
Wishing everybody a
see you all Wednesday the 28th.
Week 15
Good Luck to the
team on Sunday, I hope the lane condition is better than Wednesday night.
With the postponement on Wednesday it meant that only 48 bowlers played and while there were no complaints about the condition, there must have been something funny about it because 22 of us failed to make a "500" series. Mind you the other 26 seemed to bowl alright because there were 29 "200's" which is about average and whilst there were only 4 "600's", the scratch average game stayed at 174.0 this week which was a surprise.
Thanks to everybody who signed the Get Well card I have posted it on.
There's a copy of the Newsletter on the relevant page.
Week 14
Hi everyone, the special mention this week is to congratulate
for her 657 series, which made her lady bowler of the week for the second week running and the 4th time this season.
As for the rest of us, well the number of "200's" stayed the same at 32 , there were 7 "600's" and the scratch average game fell slightly to 174.7 , which meant that the seasons average game stayed at about the same at 174.0 .
The
team has been selected and the following bowlers have agreed to represent the Major league on the
,
,
,
That's enough from me for now but I should have another newsletter out on Wednesday.
Week 13
Another "700" this week number 5 for the season and the second on lanes 1-2 in 2 weeks, this time it's congratulation to
for his
series. As for the rest of us, well the number of "200's" fell by 2 to 32 and the scratch average game fell slightly to 176.5 , but the seasons average game continues to rise it's now upto 174.0 .
As I mentioned the
team will be chosen from the highest averages, who have bowled the most games, the names in the frame can be seen on the standing sheet. Should any of those bowlers have other commitments then their places will be offered the the next in line. Also see entry form on newsletter page, Newsletter all team members must be WTBC members.
Week 12
Congratulation to
for his
series, that's his 2nd "700" of the season and it included his seasons best game of
. The number of "200's" improved this week at 34 and the league scratch average game went up this week to 177.8 that's the second best weekly scratch average game this season and the seasons ave game is now up to 173.8 which continues the improvement from week 1's 165 .
For anybody who didn't see or read the Newsletter there's a copy on the relevant page.Newsletter
Week 11
This week it has been brought to my notice that, recently some league members have been making "audible derogatory comments" about teams or players near them. First as a league official I cannot condone this practice it has got to stop there is no place for it in the Major league. Second should this become a written complaint and the members concerned be named then the league management committee will take severe disciplinary action against those people concerned.
Back to business, this week saw a drop in the number of "200's" to 25 although 5 of those were over 250 which probably explains why the league av. game only dropped to 175.9 , there were only 5 "600's" this week.
I should have a Newsletter out this week with some info about the
.
Week 10
Apologies again this week to anybody who looked on the site Sunday morning for an update but, due to partying Saturday evening I overlaid and didn't have time before going to work to update the site.
Back to business, first, congratulation to
for his first ever "700" series, a set of
, that's our 3rd of the season.
Now the rest of the stats, it seems that it not only John Harding that found the lanes to his liking because the league scratch average game went up by 6 pins to 176.6 and the number of "200's" went up to 35 , the number of "600's" fell by 1 to 6 . As I want to get this up-loaded as soon as possible I'll finish now.
Week 9
Sorry to anybody who looked on the site Sunday morning for an update but I forgot about it until I was talking about searching the web for something, that it jogged my memory.
As you probably realized Wednesday when I handed your membership cards, the BTBA has sanctioned the league for another season.
Now last weeks stats, I think that the lane conditions were much more difficult, because the league scratch average game dropped 9 pins to 170.5 from week 8's high. Also reflecting the difficult condition was the number of "200's" which dropped by 15 to 28 , the number of "600's" was halved to 7 .
As usual we will be entering a team in the
tournament again this year, the team will be chosen from the 3 highest averaging men and the highest lady who have bowled the most games, subject to them being available. I will speak to the bowlers concerned soon.
Week 8
Still no word from the BTBA, it's 4 weeks since I sent everything in and nothing, I've e-mailed them twice and not even a reply.
Although there were some complaints about the lane conditions being to dry, I think that they must have suited most people, because there was the highest number of "200's" so far this season at 43 and the most "600's" at 15 which was treble the 5 a week that we have been averaging so far. The scratch average game also showed some improvement, moving up to 179.1 the highest this season which helped push the seasons ave game up 173.2 .
Thanks to Simon for pointing out my mistake in the schedule, I have corrected it and to anyone else if you see a mistake please let me know.
Thanks also to Marsha for reminding me about the
tournament which takes place on the
, more news about that later.
Week 7
Still no word from the BTBA and the info from the Scratch league sec is possibly another 2 weeks.
Congratulation to
for his
series, that's our 2nd "700" of the season. The number of "200's" showed an improvement for the second week running at 34 and although the league scratch average game dropped slightly this week to 176.3 the seasons ave game is now up to 172 which is considerably better than week 1's 165 .
For anybody who didn't see or read the Newsletter there's a copy on the relevant page.
Week 6
BTBA update, still no news which is surprising, normally if you send it off early it's back by now, it's when you wait till week 6 that you have to wait 3 or 4 weeks, well maybe next week?.
The scratch average game showed a marked improvement this week up 7 pins to 178.4 which probably account for the fact that the number "200's" was the highest of the season so far at 32 , the number of "600's" was also better at 7 this week. As we only had 16 teams playing this week those numbers may have been even better had everybody been playing.
I will try and get a newsletter out this week to explain why we have a Position round already, I did make a comment in Week 1 about the need to put extra position rounds in, also I understand that the AMF web site is being revamped, so that means that anybody who used the link from there to get here is now unable to do so. There is also a link from the BTBA web site but if you don't have the address to that it's not much use, so I will stick that info in the letter.
Week 5
No news from the BTBA yet, still thats not surprising, I will keep you posted.
Now last wednesdays stats the league scratch average game dropped slightly to 171.9 that was probably due to the number of "200's" falling to 23 , and that there were only 2 "600's" this week. There may have been another contributory, the lane dressing machine had broken down over the weekend and wednesday was the first day that it was back in service. I am told that the lanes were diabolical on monday and tuesday, so I suppose we were lucky that they were at least playable.
Week 4
Hi everybody, I have sent off the BTBA sanction and membership applications, and provided everybody that has said that they have joined direct or through another league has done so then it shouldnt take long for them to be proccessed.
Next last wednesdays stats the league scratch average game showed a 3 pin improvement to 173.2 that was probabley due to the fact that the number of "200's" went up to 29 , and the number of "600's" nearly doubled to 7 also we had the first "700" fo the season this week.
Congratulation to
for his
series.
Next before I am berated for not putting some high scores on the standing sheet, let me remind everyone of the league rules, Team Hi games and series that are bowled with a sub in the line up are ineligble for recognition, the same applies to Individual awards.
Week 3
There's a copy of last wednesdays Newsletter on the Newsletter page or click above link for anybody who did not see it down the bowl. Thanks to the 17 teams who filled in the BTBA questionaire for me but there always has to be one that has to be different and make life dificult.
Bowling stats there wasn't much change in the league scratch average game this week, down slightly to 170.2 but comparing that to last seasons finishing average of 176.5 means we are well down at the moment. The number of "200's" also fell to 24 , but that was midway between week 1's and week 2's totals, as a percentage that represents only 15.5% which is well down on last years nearly 21% but probably is understandable considering the drop in the scratch average game. There was only 4 "600's" this week.
The one good thing about Wednesday night was that the whole league started on time for the first time this season, we didn't have to wait because of breakdowns and nobody reported any to me afterwards, so I presume that the evening went off without incident.
Week 2
Hi everybody, I'm afraid the complete updating of the site will be a little late again as I'm working again this sunday.
First congratulations to Ade Tulley for his 287 game this week, I think everybody is settling down to being back bowling now because the league scratch average game showed a marked improvement this week going up by nearly 5 pins to 170.9 . The number of "200's" went up to 31 which I expect will be much nearer the weekly average now that we have only got 18 teams and there was 5 "600's" sets.
The maintainace problem still seems to be with us, because we had to wait a long time for one pair of lanes because the earlier league had so many problems, but nobody actually complained to me about them.
I hope to have a newsletter out this week reminding everybody about BTBA and WTBC payments.
Week 1
Hi Everybody, as expected the phantom teams wanting to join failed to appear so we are running with 18 teams this year, the format will be twice round and no split into divisions, I will put some extra position rounds in to make the season up to 40 weeks as usual.
Welcome to the new teams that have joined us and I hope you enjoyed your first weeks bowling.
I dont know whether it's because we have lost some of our higher average bowlers, or whether everybody is a little bit rusty due to the lay off, or that if the condition thats put down during the summer doesn't suit most league bowlers, but this weeks scratch average game of 165.9 was the lowest week 1 average of the 7 years that I have been keeping records. The number of "200's" at 19 and only 3 "600's" would seem to indicate that something is not quite right because even last year when we only had 18 teams for the 1st week there were 26 and 6 respectively.
As a lot of you will know I dont only bowl on a wednesday evening, I bowl thursday and friday as well, so having bowled 3 nights this week it worries me that I have seen lane breakdowns on all three nights. Wednesday lane 2 had broken down and the repair took so long that they had to move the match to another pair of lanes but meant that we were late starting. Thursday lane 7 dropped the 9 pin on numerous occations and lanes 4/5 the scoring packed up and a member of staff had sit and manualy enter the scores. Friday lane 7 was still dropping the 9 pin so badly that the scratch league complained about it and we had to have a 15 minute maintanence break before we could bowl, well they fixed the 9 pin problem but then it dropped the 5 pin half a dozen times while we were bowling. If thats the way its going to be then, its going to be a very long season.
Week -1
Thanks to everybody who turned up to the AGM, as you are well aware, the anticipated 20 teams for this year did not materialise, due to 2 teams who reserved places deciding not to join but not having the decency to let anybody know. Wednesday evening I was told that there might be 2 other teams wanting to join, but it's now Sunday pm and I have heard nothing, so it's looking increasingly like we might have to run with 18 teams this year.
I have put the 1st weeks fixture list on the Standings page.
Just in case anybody might want to refer the final standings and the various other bits for last few of seasons, I have put them on 4 separate web sites so that people can refer back to them.
