The following is taken from a 1970’s Vitavox brochure:
“Founded in 1931 by Len Young, father of two of the present directors of Vitavox Ltd (Ed- Neil and David Young)., the company has never modified its aim of developing and producing the highest quality loudspeakers and microphones. This has resulted in an uninterrupted half century’s production of a wide range of acoustic transducers for such varied applications as the armed forces, mining and oil exploration, cinemas, theatres, clubs, discotheques and pop groups, sport fields, stadiums, railway stations, factories and domestic Hi-Fi. Many of the early installations are working effectively today and most products made during the last forty years can still be serviced.
The high quality of Vitavox equipment expresses itself in many different forms. Most products for the armed forces will stand shock tests of over 70 G, are blast proof and watertight while still retaining high efficiency and excellent intelligibility. On the other hand the domestic Hi-Fi loudspeaker systems feature hand crafted cabinets in selected walnut veneers fitted with individually tested loudspeaker components which will reproduce any programme material with unsurpassed reality. One thing all products have in common is the very extensive quality control procedures right from the raw material stage up to the final product, thus ensuring a constant quality and extremely high reliability for many decades to come”
Origination of the name Vitavox (taken from an original sales brochure):
“In the early days of the talking motion picture boom, many technical trade names were derived from Latin roots, Vitavox coupling LIFE and VOICE or “sound of the human voice”, in an ideal description. It is true to say that, over the years, audiences, totaling millions of people, must have heard dialogue of LIFE-like VOICE at cinemas in many countries, projected by Vitavox cinema horn systems. Today, with our rapid growth into the world of live music presentation, we translate Vitavox as LIVE SOUND, for LIVE SOUND truly describes our aim. As craftsmen engineers, we at Vitavox have always adopted a policy of achieving high electro acoustic transfer efficiency by concentrating our efforts in the development of horn loudspeakers. Any style of entertainment, from musical groups and discotheques to theatres and opera houses, can enjoy the advantages of our range of cone loudspeakers, pressure drivers and horn systems- all especially designed for the optimum projection of high quality musical sound. The VITAVOX philosophy ensures that LIVE SOUND does indeed SOUND LIVE!“
