Microphones

I’ve struggled to build anything like a comprehensive list of Microphones that Vitavox produced, but I’ve detailed the ones I have come across here. Most of the text that follows comes straight from Vitavox brochures so please excuse the incorrect tenses.

1359

Model designation: Admiralty pattern Number 1359.

The photographs here are of my 1946 model. A 1942 version with support is shown on the Micman website.

B-4

No further details known.

B-50

Three series of sturdy hand held weatherproof microphones for general voice announcements. The spring loaded on-off switch operates a spare set of contacts for remote control applications and can be locked by rotation of the push-button.

B-60

Two series of rugged hand-held watertight microphones for naval and industrial applications. A special version is available for use in hazardous areas. The non locking on-off switch operates a spare set of contacts for remote applications.

B70 Goosenecks (flexible supports)

The basic B70 Gooseneck can be supplied un-switched or with any of four different switch options. Two adaptors are supplied as standard enabling any one of three microphone insets to be fitted - 300 Ohms electro-magnetic, 70 Ohms carbon of the Vitavox 25 Ohm moving coil. There are three different versions with insets fitted - 300 Ohms noise cancelling, 25 Ohms noise cancelling and, for the Naval SRE B70 microphone, 25 Ohms dynamic.

B-80

A robust bracket mounting watertight microphone for naval and industrial applications. A special version is available for use in hazardous areas. The on-off switch operates a spare set of contacts for remote control applications and can be internally set for spring return-to-off of biased-in-on position.

B90 Noryl

Watertight, available as 25 moving coil inset, 25 Ohms noise cancelling, 300 Ohms Electro-magnetic and 70 Ohms carbon inset.

Microphone inset

A strong 25 ohm moving coil microphone inset with an exceptionally high output level. When fitted in a suitable housing, this microphone inset is fully watertight and is permitted for use in hazardous areas. This inset is fitted as standard in B-50, B-54, B-60, B-64 and B-80 microphones

Naval microphones

B-50, B-60 and B-80 series microphones are available in special services versions. A flexible microphone support for fixed mounting is also available, fitted with various insets. All microphones comply with the requirements of the British Ministry of defence and most models have NATO codification.

Microphone stands

There were five stands available - desk, banquet, table, long pedestal and short pedestal. All are built to broadcast standard with smooth and easily operated fittings. A full range of high quality adaptors were available.
