FLYING SAUCERS
Sir,- I have read with
keen interest the letters that appeared on the 19th.
and 22nd. inst. about the so called flying
saucers. The mere fact that only one person sent
an account of his observation to the Press does
not prove that he must have been a lone observer.
I shall thank you if you will kindly publish my
observations in your highly esteemed paper.
It was on the 28-5-57, at about 9.40pm while I
was relaxing on the terrace of my house in Sadar,
that a certain movement in the heavens caught my
eye and I observed a bright luminous and roundish
object, about 1/8 the size of the moon and
closely resembling it, darting across the sky
from the South to the North. Within five seconds
of its appearance it disappeared, obviously into
outer space. It appeared to be moving at a
terrific speed. I was hoping to read an account
of this phenomenon in the papers the next day but
none appeared. After this, my first observation,
my curiosity was roused and I with my household
members have eagerly watched at nights.
Again on the 29-5-57 at exactly the same time we
observed another phenomenon. This time the object
was moving from west to east and on keen
observation, it appeared to be composed of two
bodies moving in complete unison with each other
towards the east. They appeared in the sky for
about ten seconds. This was my second observation.
Evidently these objects were again seen in the
heavens on the 17-6-57 by the Jail Road observer
after a break of about nineteen days and there is
no reason for people to disbelieve him. When I
read his account on the morning of June 19, I
began looking at the sky that night (June 19)
from my terrace. Unfortunately it was a cloudy
night but to my luck a mysterious phenomenon was
seen by us. At about 10pm a roundish, bright and
luminous object darted across the sky from the
northeast to the southwest and disappeared within
three seconds of its appearance. It was lost in
the cloudy night After about five minutes, it
appeared again in the northeast, took a turn to
the east, then successively to the south, west,
north and finally to the east again, where it
disappeared. In taking the turn, the object
showed variations in speed and when it was
fastest, it had the speed of a shooting star.
There was no trail left behind. This circling
phenomenon took about 15 to 20 seconds. During
this period we could see the body intermittently
on account of the clouds, since it was well above
the clouds. The object was a single body which
appeared to be well controlled and steered by
some mysterious power and it was brighter that
the one seen on the 29-5-57. This was my third
observation.
These observations are hard facts and not mere
hallucinations. And, I leave to competent
authorities, if there be any, to explain what
these objects could have been. But it is
ridiculous to call these objects white night
birds by sitting in an easy chair without
bothering to make personal observation of them.
No night bird could ever go at that speed. If it
were an earth satellite or balloon it would move
round the earth in one direction only and not
circle the heavens as this object of my third
observation did.
I have heard some people talk of them as heavenly
bodies, sent by some super-human-being, to sweep
the harmful radioactive dust present in the upper
layers of the stratosphere as a result of the
Hydrogen bomb explosions and save mankind from
extinction. Others have suggested that they could
be the baffling flying saucers, whose origin and
purpose is still not understood, but are believed
to be periodical visitors from outer space moving
beyond the sound barrier at an incredible speed.
If the present periodicity of its appearance is
maintained, it is believed it will make its
appearance again in the first week of July.
