David Page

(born c.1800)

Born in Lochgelly, Fife, he was educated at Auchterderran School before studying natural sciences at St. Andrews and Edinburgh universities. In 1853 Page became proprietor of the Fifeshire Journal. He wrote several textbooks and gave lectures on geology and physical geography, skillfully explaining to the layman the research of geologists like Lyell and Murchison.

John Anderson acknowledged his considerable contribution to knowledge about Dura Den's fossils. Page was described as 'one of the ardent and hard-working disciples of science' and he was elected Fellow of both the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Geological Society in recognition of his work. He, too, was a member of the Literary and Philosophical Society of St. Andrews.
