The Etgoose Family
I am
grateful for the following corrections and comments abour
the Etgoos family which were made by Michael J Edgoose
who has registered
the name with the Guild of One Name Studies. (Member:
2855)
Richard
ETGOOS
died in 1503 (PCC Wills 1383-1558 2 Holgrave). In his
will he refers to his wife Alice (who herself made a will
on 29 March 1504), to his daughter Christian, and to his
sons John the eldest, Richard, William, and John the
youngest.
In his will made on 4 November 1540 Richard MARCHE of Limehouse
refers to his wife Elizabeth and to his father-in-law John EDGOOSE (PRO PROB 11/28).
Richard
DRYVER of
Stepney made a will on 5 April 1549, referring to his
wife Elizabeth.
John
EDGOOSE
of Stepney died in 1549. Letters of Administration were
granted to his daughter Elizabeth DRYVER or EDGOOSE widow
on 7 November 1549 (London Consistory Court Wills Wymesly
folio 29)
"Elizabeth
DRIVER Late the wyffe of Richard DRIVER Late of
Lymehouse in the county of Midd. gent. deceased"
made a will on 12 August 1578. Her body was to be
buried in the church of "St. Maryes Leic."
(This connection with Leicester puzzles me. I may have
decyphered the text incorrectly). In her will (PRO
PROB II 61) she makes many references to the children of
her first marriage to Richard MARCHE.
I hope I have proved to you that Elizabeth was the
granddaughter of Richard ETGOOS rather than his wife.
Richard DRYVER of Stepney made a will on 5 April 1549,
referring to his wife Elizabeth.
