The Blue Mountains HospitalThe Blue Mountains HospitalThe Blue Mountains Anzac Memorial Hospital is located in Katoomba, 109 km west of Sydney and 1065 m above sea level. It has a total of 95 beds. Low-cost accommodation is provided in the form of a single bedroom furnished flat. The flats are quite spacious and are suitable for a couple. Resident Medical Officer for Emergency DepartmentCurrent average hours worked is 45 per week consisting of rotating shift work covering day and evening shifts. Annual leave entitlement is 10 days per six-month contract. The Emergency Department has 4 beds, 3 cubicles and one resuscitation room. Support services include on-site pathology, ultrasound and radiology. The Director of the Emergency Department provides both ongoing assessment and a formal evaluation at the end of the contract. Both formal and informal education is provided. There is an education unit with attached library with all current journals. The Area library undertakes literature searches and mails out articles and books on request. Education via satellite disk is specifically targeted at GPs. The Blue Mountains
Katoomba, the tourist centre of the Blue Mountains, has a wide range of shops, restaurants and bars. There are gyms in Katoomba and Leura, which offer weight training, squash and aerobics and the Fairmont Resort which has a gym, pools, aerobics, sauna, spa, tennis. Local companies organise climbing, abseiling, canyoning, horse riding and mountain biking. There are railway stations in Katoomba and Leura, linking the area with Penrith
and Sydney (journey time is only two
