Pershore - Health Centre PracticeA partnership of 4 full-time and 4 part time young GPs (oldest is 46!). One partner is clinical governance lead for Wychavon PCG, another is chair of the Evesham Doctors' Coop. We have one on the retainer scheme. The premises owned by the community Trust are pleasant and purpose built, but now 20 years old. Each doctor including the registrar has their own room. All the usual facilities including a busy dispensary and treatment room are available There is a well stocked library and easy access from all the doctors' rooms to electronic sources of information, such as the internet, Cochrane Library, Best Evidence, eBMJ etc. Part of a large but friendly primary care team, with a full range of all the different professionals on site, which makes for easier relationships. The practice meets together regularly to discuss strategies and developments as well as reviewing our achievements. The team is keen to operate as a modern learning organisation and values practice based educational events, trying to combine the best of traditional general practice with a modern innovative approach to primary care. The practice has invested fully in IT and is extensively computerised (using the EMIS system) which makes audit much easier. The practice belongs to the Evesham Doctors' Coop for out of hours care and provide medical cover to a local nursing home and factory, as well as having patients at Pershore Cottage Hospital. Our GP registrars seem to have an enjoyable time with us, getting a balance of experience without an excessive workload, and are encouraged to take part in every aspect of practice activity. There is plenty of scope for adapting the training to your style, needs and interests. The emphasis is on an adult self directed approach to learning and education. The practice are all involved in this with personal learning plans being developed, in connection with the practice and PCG development plan. The practice takes medical students from Birmingham and student district and practice nurses on attachment, which adds to the interest.
