Brazil v Turkey
Monday 3rd June 2002 10.30 BST, Ulsan
Brazil 2 Turkey 1
Ronaldo 50, Rivaldo 87 (pen); Sas 45
Controversy! Turkey wuz robbed!!
I was accused of being biased. Me!? How could I be said to be biased *against* the Brazilians when others aren't accused of being biased *towards* the Brazilians? I dunno, I never did get it. I never got Brazil and I never got Zidane. Both are as equally overrated, in my opinion, as caviar and fois gras. What is "typically Brazilian"? Why is what Ronaldo does "brilliant" as opposed to what Sas was doing. He was equally talented with his feet and yet he was described as "solid". Anyway, I was justified by the end of the game, because Brazil (or some) are out and out cheats! Boo!!
Turkey were great! The goal from Sas was wonderful. Brazil were OK. The usual. Anyway, Ronaldo scored (that's ok) but it was still a very good match (as in *equal*). The Turkish goalie played a wonderful match and then, on 87, there he went with a disastrous clearance, straight to Denilson. Alpay brought him down; no doubt - but it was MILES outside of the penalty area - so the ref (75 if a day) not only sent off Alpay (perhaps ok as he already had a yellow), but gave a blasted penalty! Rivaldo. Oh well, done. Worse was to follow, when Brazil had a corner and Unsal passed to ball to Rivaldo, in a not too gentle manner. It hit Rivaldo on the knee and he went down clutching his face like he was in agony. It was disgraceful. But the ref sent off Unsal. Well done. Nice officiating. Grrrh.
