Germany v Republic of Ireland

Wednesday 5th June 2002 12.30 BST, Ibaraki

Germany 1 Republic of Ireland 1
Klose 19; Keane 92

ugly confrontation

I couldn't get into this game (who the heck cared!). I was disappointed with the outcome though. I mean, Germany were likely to progress anyway - but we could've got rid of Ireland here; now that's left up to Saudi Arabia ....... Oh, it was one of those clumsy affairs - nothing genteel; nothing skillful - all run, dash, kick and spit. A pretty evenly matched pairing, I would say - and a draw was, I suppose, fair. Kahn made some good saves, I must admit

Jancker's up for grabs, it seems (from B Munchen). Doubt there'll be many interested parties. A big, simple striker is one thing; a big, simple striker who doesn't score, is another.
