Sweden v Nigeria
Friday 7th June 2002 7.30 BST, Kobe
Sweden 2 Nigeria 1
Larsson 34, 61; Aghahowa 27
I woke up at 6:58 today - and was glad I did - this was a delightful game, which had it all, including a fantastic goal celebration from Aghahowa (eat your heart out Pete Beags!) and stitches on the touchline (West). Nobody seemed surprised when Nigeria went in front - but they had underestimated the Swedes (and don't know that it's "written in the book"), who, despite the sticky conditions in Kobe, never stopped running. Was proud of the Everton lads, Niklas and Linda. | |
 | So, the Eagles fly home after their game with England. England won't be pleased with this result, as it means that they must beat Argentina. If not, then Argentina and Sweden can just play out a comfy draw in their game and both qualify. I'm sick to death of the "England" hype going on right now (don't they realise that Spain are up next??? Grrh - ITV - they'll have ads instead of the anthems.). To hear Peter Schmeichel and J F Hasselbaink talking about "the boys" and Ally McCoist talking about "us" is just totally beyond.
