Mexico v Ecuador

Sunday 9th June 2002 7.30 BST, Seogwipo

Mexico 2 Ecuador 1
Borgetti 28, Torrado 57; Delgado 5

mexican victory

I was wrong about Brazil - apparently, they are not assured of the next round yet - points is complicated! Same here. Mexico sit proudly at the top of Group F, but they have Italy still to play. If Italy win, then Mexico must hope that Croatia don't beat Ecuador (by much) or they are in danger of going home. This must be a real bummer for Italy, who know that if they don't beat Mexico, then Croatia could take "their spot". I don't think they were very happy with yesterday's officialising. Got to be on their side - and it surprises me that they are not going to make an official complaint. (Although I believe that Vieri has called our Graham Poll a "village referee" - not sure about that; I wonder what he saw of both disallowed goals? Could he have overruled that cakey linesman?)

I feel that I will never get to know the Ecuadorians (who, still, quite ridiculously, have a very outside chance of qualifying themselves), as I shall definitely be watching the Mexico v Italy game. And I only saw 10 minutes of them today! :)

(Must, must, must wake up in good time tomorrow morning ........)
