Uruguay v Denmark

Saturday 1st June 2002, 10.00 BST, Ulsan

Uruguay 1 Denmark 2
Tomasson 44, 82 Rodriguez 46

Stil disorientated. Two whole games and it's still not lunchtime!

It was a relief to get back onto ITV actually. The Beeb presentation earlier was shoddy and the commentator a mumbler (backed up by Trevor Brooking!). The game was more like it too! Nice stuff - good football - a bit of passion - characters on both sides! Neat first goal from Tomasson after some pretty build-up play from the Danes. Rodriguez's goal was a corker of a volley and Tomasson's 2nd, a sneaky, perfectly placed header. All in all, I think the best team won.

For Uruguay, Recoba was impressive. Dario Silva was falling down a lot as in La Liga for Malaga (don't like him one bit). The fellow with the white canoes on his feet, nose-plaster and alice band (Abreu) was a total waste of space and I don't think touched the ball once. Their defence was OK. Their midfield rugged and hardworking. Silva flies through the air with the greatest of ease

For Denmark, Sand was quiet; Tomasson (obviously) effective; Tufty and Graveson gritty in the middle. Pervy Pleat (today's co-commentator) took obvious pleasure in mentioning "rubberdoll" whenever he had the opportunity.

Just time to squeeze in a tuna sarny before Germany.
