Silly, silly Portugal! Victims of their own large egos and indiscipline. It was suggested by some on the ITV experts sofa, that Portugal and Korea might play out a comfy drawn game in the second half (as they would've known the score from the other game), but (thank goodness) that didn't happen. Whether or not it would've had another Portuguese player not been sent off, we will never know. Anyway, Portugal down to 9 men and Korea had to score really! I watched the frenzied last 5 minutes or so, when Portugal flung everybody forward, even Baia. Conceicao had a shot hit the post; another well saved. The Koreans hung on for grim death - but were seemingly worthy winners, and how lovely for them to finish top of their group! No doubt they have made new friends in the USA too. Next up for Korea: Italy. Next up for Portugal: a stormy welcoming party at Lisboa airport!! |
