I AM SO DEPRESSED!
Somebody (not yet famous) once said, "Germany don't play football, but something else". How right he was. Spain couldn't do it. Italy couldn't do it. Hold onto a 1-0 lead, that is. What's more, they didn't deserve to darned well win. And they cheated. "THE POSITIONING OF FRINGS" comes back to haunt, as Frings positioned himself on the post, with his arm positioned just in the right place to (sneakily) make sure that Berhalter's 50th minute shot didn't cross the line. Pity the Scottish referee and English linesman weren't in a POSITION to spot it. And it was Ballack who scored. Pee! I dislike him intensely. He is SO arrogant-looking. He reminds me of Massala (is it?) in Ben Hur. He met a very sticky end, didn't he! :) * |
The USA did so well. They played fabulously - just as football should be played. They never once hung their heads - never stopped trying. They never resorted to hoofing either. To a man, they displayed unbelievable workrate and incredible fitness. Only Kahn saved the Germans, as he made 4 or 5 splendid saves from the Americans. I even went upstairs, halfway through the second half, to change from my white T-shirt into a navy one, but to no avail. Pah!!! Perhaps, at the end of all this, Bruce "does my butt look big in these pants, hon?" Arena might be awarded with the "Manager of the Tournament". But they'll give it to the Dutchman, won't they?
I am really worried about tomorrow morning's game now. I don't think I can stand to watch it, now that I remember what this stupid game can do to your nerves - and how truly unfair it can be. And, even if "we" get past the Dutchman's red dragons - look at the reward we get!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no hope!!!
* The actor was Stephen Boyd.

Anyway, here's the proof (complete with helmet! :)).

A plea in vain
"(loads of anti German stuff) So we make this plea to the Americans. Gentlemen, look to the history books. Think of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and of Lend Lease (?). Think of all those English roses your GI grandads coaxed into bed with nothing more than a stick of gum and a pair of nylons. Boys, you saved our limey butts with Germany once before. In the name of God, we beg you on bended knee, do it again"."Daily Mirror" (of course, when they thought that England might meet Germany in the final!) |
