Titterington Trail 2008 - Information
Overview
This year we are focussing on the area of England which we believe is the source of the Titterington name. This is Tytherington located to the north of Macclesfield. The 2008 Trail will start by looking at sites around south Manchester and then focus on Tytherington and Prestbury.
We plan to meet at St Michael's and All Angels Mottram in Longdendale where we will have coffee and view the Church
Manchester is a sprawling urban area and instead of travelling in 'convoy' around the Titterington sites, details will be available so that in the morning you can choose which ones you wish to visit from a list.
We have hired the Village Hall at Prestbury for lunch and the afternoon sessions. In the evening there will be a social gathering at the Legh Arms at Prestbury.
Cost
The cost of the day is £8 for adults and £4 for children. This covers the hire of the village hall at Prestbury, a simple lunch of soup, crusty bread and coffee/tea plus tea and cakes at the end of the afternoon.
This sum will be collected on the day but we must know that you intend to come so that we can advise the caterers of numbers and also choose which of the two rooms in the village hall to use. There is a medium size room and a large one and we need to decide which one to have.
Please ring Alan Titterington on 01484 712104 to add the names of your party to the list of attendees.
Directions to Mottram in Longdendale
First of all check that you have an up to date map of Manchester. Some years ago the roads comprising the motorway ring were renumbered. Make sure you have a map showing this road as the M60. If your map has the M63 going round the south of the City then buy a new map!
Since the M60 is a Ring, you also need to know that the junctions are numbered clockwise starting at Stockport west as Junction 1 and going all the way round to Stockport central Junction 27. Click here for a map showing all the locations.
Most people will approach Mottram in Longdendale from the West along the M67. Continue to the end of the M67. There is nearly always a queue of traffic at the end of the motorway as the road becomes the narrow A57. To avoid the queue, get in the right hand lane and go right at the roundabout (signed A560), after 200yds turn left at the traffic lights and follow this road through a rather dismal housing estate. When the road descends into Mottram, go straight across at the give way sign and then up the hill towards the Church.
Parking is available in three places. The first is beside the road on the hill up to the Church, the second is to the left at the top of the hill where there is a triangular area in front of the Church, the third is in the playground of the primary school. The entrance to the school is in the triangular area in front of the Church.
Accommodation
Since the afternoon will be spent in and around Prestbury, should you need to book overnight accommodation then this area is the most convenient.

General points
1. There will be a free guide available on arrival at Mottram, which gives details of how to get to all the sites including satnav information. In addition there will be the usual historical and family history notes.
