Steveeeeeeeeeeeee at last you have seen the light!!! Steve is right about the expensive time wasters we would be better off paying the money that went on them to the youth teams!! We can go to Partick on saturday with no fears about them they will be mored about playing us then we will be of them. 4 more wins and should be safe so lets make sure we only need another 3 after we beat the soap dodgers on saturday.

What a result lads, its good to see us put the soap dodging scum to the sword. And a feel so guilty now for slagging flo, a take it all back, he may have his weekneses but he always gives 100% and looking at expensive wasters like JIm Gardner you can't ask for more
PS 1-0 we beat the scum 1-0 we beat the scum 1-0 we beat the scum 1-0

Fantastic result Lichties...absolutely excellent...made my night. Graham in Hono-f**king-lulu....I'm not having a go here, but possibly the reason the team isnae as well supported as it might be, is that lads like you and I (and countless dozens more) have had to leave town to find work and only make the odd game here and there. Look at the locations on the guestbook entries: Norway, Orkney, Africa, Pissing-well Hawaii, US, London....in fact just about anywhere but that wee half-forgotten coastal town on the A92 between Dundee & Aberdeen. Once again....SUPERB result last night, Maroons!

Bloomfield posted missing again. Another three points!!! Brilliant result last nite. Solid showing from new boy Moffat and another five star performance from the wee genius wearing no.8 Have to disagree with match report which only gives Flo a ''6''. The fact that he cut his teeth in the 3rd div and is only about 4ft tall is sometimes forgotten. Flo has to handle good players week in week out and has been immense during our last two games.

Hello, I am from Forfar. I never went to school because I didn't have to. We have horses and potatoes, they're nice. My daddy showed me how to bother goats, I like it. daddy says that mummy isn't actually his sister, they just look really, really like each other. My eyes are very far apart and my lips are very tiny.......I'm not sure why. In Forfar there is lots too see; tractors, horses, fields, sheep and everything. I was really happy when we got drawn to play the Rangers, becaus I will get to see REAL city people. I've heard that they all have different surnames and they all look really different from each other and everything. Maybe I will take some of them for a tractor ride out to Memus and back. That's miles.
I love that Paul Tosh, he's my hero. Barry Sellars too. I heard some bad Arbroath people say bad things about them but I don't care, I love them with all my heart. Maybe we'll get to play Arbroath again, but I don't think it'll be in my lifetime. I must go now, I've heard that someone has seen a stranger down by The Cross. I hope I get first bite.

The Lichties could do with a break. When was the ast penalty awarded in our favour? OK so maybe we don't get into the box as often as we should. This midwinter stretch is crucial so we have to keep afloat, scramble for an occasional draw of the promising first half to the season will be for naught. Look at how Man U have sprinted up the table in the past 7 weeks - no lesson there whatsoever except that, entirely contrary to cupties, the heavy pitcvhes let the class teams come to the top. never claimed Lichties were class but they're no bad but now we have to fight for it. Jaaaaysus, it never ceases to amaze that; despite the club never being drawn into the debt trap, keeping ground improvements sensible and affordable, attracting two excellent coaches in succession, not bemoaning the local apathy that blights the club.......etc., that some people really want to have a go. Doctoring gate receipts? that's a very serious accusation to make. In fact, the sort of accusation that should only be offered up with absolutely infallible, concrete evidence to back it up. An takers? No, didn't think so. To playing matters: I thought the lads picked themselves up really well and put in a solid, enthusiastic performance against the old-pro's XI of Ayr. Finishing was the difference on the day. Back 4 mostly solid again, Cargill showing the quality he has, nad a right good shift from Bayneser up front. That sort of performance bodes well for div.I survival chances. Oh aye....leave of Dode Rowe: he does his job really well. If Geordie was to try and play out like Hansen every week, I guess the same people would be screamin ' Gerritup-the-paaaaaark!!!!!' (I know I would). PS> Brucie, no sign of McGhie at Gayf yet. Poor show.

Aye, the ref wis, at best, pish but we couldnae pit twa 10 yerd ba's thegither (ba tae FEET, Sye)...lack o' confidence? Canna be. Lack o' ability? No way! the same core o' players huv performed miracles in the same time it's ta'en me tae pit oan a stane an' a half. At times we've really got to admit that being part-time will really hurt the time this time o' year, when grindin' oot results through pure graft and dig tae get every last point is what matters come May-time. Taking off my rose tinted gregory,s nearly 24 hours after that inept shambolic display, last nights result is still nipping my ringpiece. Another great chance to attract long lost die hardz, and earn a wallet full of Tynecastle spondulics has vanished for another season. We loyal Red Lichties can disect the man with the whistle and his tragic comic Shakesperian appearance,i.e.Bottom. But the freezing baltic facts are that if our heroes can't pass the leather round object to one another with a slight modicum of basic ability, then we all suffer equal torment and anguish.I can only hope the players suffered as much as we did last night, and that Ayr Utd. will suffer swift and merciless retribution this coming Saturday.

Should be a great night as the maroon platoon burst the heelan' ranks and set up a giant killin' opportunity at Gorgie Rd. In Diggers for openin', anyone? Withoot gettin' cerried awa'....if any of the playing staff read this: get fully wired in, there's nuthin' tae fear fae them. An early goal & then finish them aff. Dae it for a' the maroons aroon' the globe that canna be there!!!

Ahh the legendary morton game! Pretty sure it was 1993. Thing about that that made us so impressed was that they were a 1st div side, and we were a lowly 3rd I think. (Was that the first year after reconstruction?). Back then the 1st division seemed a far off fantasy dreamland, the sort of incredible place where you got decent gates every week, you had a top standard ground, the seagulls shat mince pies at half time, and you were guaranteed to pull in tropics after the game. Now that we ARE in the dreamland - it's an anticlimax. All the old firm supporting twats still wont support the toon, the ground is no much different (if worse), and Glen still cannae get a shag. B*stards. My current plan is to train attack seagulls brainwashed onto shiting onto any rangers/celtic shirts below. As a gential wart, this may be beyond my capabilities.

I resent the implication that I have a wee bout of 'Duke of Argylls'....it's just a massive arse; is that any grounds by which to judge a chap? All the best to the maroons on Tuesday...shouls capitalise on a good home crowd advantage if everyone that should turn up, turns up.......bring yersel', yer da', oor wullie, your wullie, abody's wullie: let's see fifteen hunner or twa thoosand. Mind when we played Morton in the third roond in '93? ('94? no affa shair)...the pliss wiz heavin'. Sorbie hat-trick.....Kenny MacDonald/Brian Tilsley's pace causing them no end o' bather?!? Bring oan the Jambos, let's dump the heelan' hemmer throwers RIGHT oot o' it!!!!

Perhaps Hearts V The Lichties in the cup? Very interesting if we make it that far. It will be nice to pit ourselves against a team *marginally* better than a 1st div team, who also had the good sense to wear maroon. And not be weegie.

Just past the halfway mark and the Lichties are doing more than OK, `punching above their weight etc'. Full-time status is clearly over-rated - I can only think of three times this season when Arbroath seemed outclassed (Airdrie, St Mirren at home, ICT awaya - the first one). So can we continue to defy the odds? 5-6 wins out of the last 16 games might be enough but they'' be hard pressed to take anything off Partick Thistle who are flying again. We did last season.
Year nearly gone and I relasie how much the Arbroath squad as changed - only 5 out of the 22 starting 98-99 season are still in the picture - which shows the management have rung the changes needed to survive. Here's to making it thrid bottom by the end of the season (and autmoatic entry to SPL 2 and a bye to the UEFA cup).

Apologies for ant offence on the John McAulay issue. I know during times of exile any gossip was good gossip. It appears my usually reliable source is as reliable as a Riddler's Coach on this one. However, the previous evening a learned a 3rd division team decided not to continue in the deal they had been offered to buy John as they thought he was unfit and overweight, that why I went with it. I did notice there have been no complaints about my comments on Pacey!

Fraser, for once I actually agree with your entry, although from my stand point I think contact was made and it was a pen. Having said that well done to the U18s it was an outstanding performance against what I believe to have been the favourites for the competition. I think a certain Mr Gavin Swankie will have trouble getting his starting place back. Does anyone know the other three teams that are left? Well done again boys, look forward to watching you ALL playing in the SPL.

I would just like to say a Fannytastic well done to the U18s for a majestic performance against Abeerdeen last night. It just shows what talent is in the ranks when we beat last years of the bp cup and deserved it as well.It was also nice to see so many people there supporting the youngsters i just wish more would make the effort on a saturday for the senior team.(home and away). Special mention to Little baker who had a gem of a game at left back and we gave 9.5 for his dive to win that last minute penalty. Also Kenny mcmillan who netted 3 penaltys in the game last night not something you useally see but he stuck them away well. Also a man who didn't have his best game but kept going all night and eventully stuck away the crucial last penalty well done Henna. Good luck in the next round boy's and there is no reason you can't go on and win it.

Well in truth we were really the 2 shepards as I burst my sheep on the way up there (No 2 as I burst another one the night before!) a tell you they dont make im like they used to:-) still the two remaining sheep plus me Lee and Sandy are off to Inverness on Sat and a much larger Lichties support would be appreciated. I am continually amazed at the success this season. I hope that it keeps going. I didn't think in my wildest dreams that we could hold our own in a full time league. What we need to know now is .. are the directors willing to put more money in to keep us in a league where we clearly belong ??

DD of Edinburgh...the author apologises for the offence caused by the Clyde/no ships jibe. Indeed, it was childish and un-necessary. It was also directed at 2 Clyde fans he met working at Kvaerner's Masa shipyard in Helsinki...you see this sort of thing is called ' a wee bit crack' in some quarters....such as shipyards, and was meant as such - not a deeply thought out social comment. Please lighten up, it won't happen again. Accepted? To the footy then: excellent win in the 6-pointer on Saturday...well pleased. Here's hoping we can carry it on to 'Rabber-Bamper' County FC up in Dingers on Saturday. All the best to the hardy souls going up; drive carefully for God's sake, that road's lethal.

I felt I had to write in in response to the report that John McAulay hasn't trained for 3 weeks. That is completely inaccurate, he has missed one training session since the start of the season. It is also worth noting that it can't be easy working full-time, travelling to training, mid-week games (if any) and the Saturday game to find out you aren't playing!

And another thing ware is that Montrose fan that left a message here last week?, beaten 4-0 by a team that sits only one league above you? well am sure the second division is quaking in their boots. Sadly we could draw some parallels here with the fine boats that were once built not a million miles from Gayfield. Is traditional industries in decline really that amusing? Back to the footy - saw the Clyde match earlier in the season and they will be there for the beating tomorrow, if we can shackle the big horse (Keogh?) up front. Take note (and a game!) Geordie Rowe.

Go on the Maroon Platoon....dish oot some glorious fitba justice to the glue-begs. My prediction 3-0 us, not helped by some wank west-coast refereeing.

But even if the "mighty mo" are playing well there is no way your gona jump two devisions in one season!A think it will be some time yet before we have to go to tinks park on league juty! And whats all this about a large vocal Mo away support. The last time the three of yous came to Gayfield you werna that loud, smell yes but no loud. If a was you add just be happy playing the qulity teams such as Albion Rovers or even the mighty East Stirling.

Cargill was magic yesterday...epitomising the tremendous workrate the team is showing. You genuinely can't tell us apart from the full-timers in terms of fitness now...nuff respec' and big up to the AFC coaches in de area. I thought Raith's keeper, Dr. Dre, also had a blinder yesterday...his save off Swankie's 25-yarder was top drawer. Once again the Sunday papers are focussing upon opposition deficiencies rather than our excellent organisation, young talent, and honest endeavour.....SoS giving us some respect now, though. i agree with west end lichtie regarding the late dave kean, a true red lichtie gentleman, and i hope the club show a mark of respect for him.i was at ayr last week and the whole team played brilliant with hinchcliffe, macglashan and cargill superb.the ayr united fans were also magic at the end applauding maroon fans and shaking our hands when it looked like a stramash was on the menu, it was also good to see john(100% red lichtie)macauly on the bench last saturday.also on tuesday the u18,s were tremendous and the future of afc looks good if this crop of youngsters are coming through.all the best to j.b. and the boys this saturday against the fife jocky wilson lino sniffers.

I've just heard that Dave Kean, the former commercial manager at Gayfield for many years, has passed away in Norwich after suffering a heart attack. AFC owes a lot to Dave who was instrumental in getting the old Hampden turnstiles to Gayfield and the floodlighting put up. I believe he also started a certain Mr Leishman on the after dinner circuit. Hope the club marks Dave's passing in some form or another on Saturday.

Well done to the young Lichties who destroyed SPL counterparts Dunfermline in last night's youth cup match at Gayf. That was one of the best performances by any side wearing the maroon jersey. The future of AFC looks bright if this lot continue to develop the potential they have already demonstrated this season. Also, a big-up to the fans who turned out to support them.

Gonk,
Re the '93 beardies. Of the 14 souls in the Official Picture - 4 are now ex-pats, 3 are at sea, 1 is a Saturday amateur, 1 attends regularly, 2 are missing in action and the other was McGrain himself. That leaves Greig Whitton and Mcghie. Excuses on a postcard.

It's great to see The Lichties looking like they might consolodate their position in the First Div. I used to watch them in the mid 60's as a schoolboy (my Dad was in the Navy based at HMS Condor as it was then), and was fortunate enough to see them promoted to the old 1st Div. Since then I watch from a distance as they have been floundering about in the lower depths of Scottish Footy, but thanks to the net and your excellent web site I can now follow their glorious(!) rise to the dizzy heights of the moment.

Fi, my suggestion to get motre fans in is to copy Livingston. They sent their skillseekers round the local schools giving out free tickets for u 16's. Primary school kids are brought by their parent's who shelled out fortunes on fizzy juice hot dogs etc. I knew the asst Stadium manager at Almondvale who said that their Coke from a gun cost 2p and they sold it for £1.20. The catering actually brought in more money than the lost ticket revenue. The kids started supporting the team rather than the local SPL teams and a fan base was built. The committee should give a try, they would only lose approx. £20 a game if they did.

Fairly gutted by the result in Maryhill but sounds like we did not deserve such a heavy filleting. Still, I'll take the home wins in place of away draws any time though the occasional away point would be most welcome so as not to develop a complex. Looking up the old Wee Red Books, in see we've already exceeded the dismal showing of Dumbarton and East Fife in years gone by (more points than they managed) but we're still at the relegation end. La lutta continua. Smokies but nae wine
