Welcome to 361 (Gateshead) Squadron Air Cadets

The Air Training Corps (ATC), also known as the Air Cadets, is a voluntary organisation for young people, between the ages of 13 and 20 years, who enjoy challenging and exciting activities.

If you are from the Gateshead area (and even if you're not!), then do look around our site to find out more about the Air Cadets, and how you could soon be flying high with the ATC...

Our Aims

The Air Cadet motto is "Venture Adventure" and our activities, as well as being challenging and great fun, are designed to help develop your personal qualities and leadership skills, as well as a sense of community, responsibility and citizenship.

The aims of the Air Cadet Organisation are:

To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.

To provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life.

To foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship

361 Squadron and the Air Cadet Organisation

The basic unit within the ATC is called a "Squadron" and 361 (Gateshead) Squadron is part of Durham/Northumberland Wing which consists of 35 squadrons covering a wide geographical area ranging from Hexham in the West, Berwick-upon-Tweed in the North, down to Bishop Auckland and Hartlepool in the South.

There are around 1,000 Squadrons and Detached Flights in the ATC, and over 35,000 cadet members, male and female.

There are also approximately 10,000 volunteer adult staff, and although the ATC is sponsored and supported by the Royal Air Force (RAF), we are not a recruiting organisation, and cadets have no obligation to join or to serve in, the RAF or any of the other armed forces.

When and Where?

361 (Gateshead) Squadron meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 1900 hrs to 2115 hrs at our purpose built headquarters at the RFCA (Territorial Army) Centre on Alexandra Road in Gateshead.

We are located directly opposite Gateshead Leisure Centre and if you want to find out more about the ATC, or would like to join the squadron, just come along on either of these nights (no appointment necessary), or phone, fax or e-mail.

Click here for a map showing where we are or enter your postcode in the "From" box below and NE8 4HX in the "To" box to calculate a route to the squadron.
