Laetitia Miles

Slip & Glaze Decorated Pottery

Laetitia Miles trained as a teacher at Southlands College in London specializing in pottery, she went on to improve her throwing skills at a pottery in Battersea. After a long break raising her family she returned to Cornwall in 1998.

Laetitia makes domestic ware for everyday use, from cups and saucers to large casseroles and slip cast wash-basins. Last year she transfered from using terracotta to working in white earthenware, producing a much lighter weight product and giving a much crisper white glaze to her "daisy" range. With the exception of dinner plates (moulded)and wash-basins(slip cast) all her work is handthrown and is dishwasher and oven proof. Hand painted decoration with cobalt blue stripes on an oxide brushed transparent glaze or blue daisies on a white ground are her main designs but the green band on a cream background introduced in 2005 is becoming increasingly more popular.

She was a member of the Cornwall Crafts Association from 1999-2002, taught pottery at Newquay Adult Education Centre from 2000-2005, and her work featured in "The Guardian" in 2004. She has established outlets in a number of small galleries throughout Cornwall and was invited to join the Guild of Ten in 2006.

Laetitia's work can be found at Cotehele House Gallery(NT);Pencarrow House; Beyond the Sea, (Padstow);Spindrift.(Porthscatho);Guild of Ten,(Truro); and later will be on sale at the National Maritime Museum, Falmouth. Out of county her main outlet is Pinedemonium at Emsworth in Hampshire.
