When I was seven years old, there was the Coronation of Elizabeth the 2nd.
We put flags across the streets and had a street party. Tables were put
in the street and the party went on all day. There were games and a fancy
dress competition. I went as Little Red Riding Hood. There was no traffic
that day. Television had just started in Birmingham and we were one of
the first to have one so we all crowded round it to watch the Coronation
ceremony. At school we were all given a Coronation Mug and some chocolate
in a small Coronation tin. Various other souvenirs were on sale like
badges, certificates, etc. The next day there was a bus tour to see the
decorations in other parts of the city.
