Who is Derek Ellis? For over ten years, Derek has been creating stunning images of Gozo, a small, though perfectly formed, island in the Mediterranean. His paintings are recognised by those who live on the island, and those who love the island, for their clean lines, and their evocation of the sunny, relaxed atmosphere that besets this sceptered isle. Born in Bristol, England, Derek trained as a signwriter, and worked as such all over the United Kingdom. His experience led him to develop his clean brush technique. It is this technique that lends his paintings their crispness. He now lives in Gozo, in a two hundred year old farmhouse, with his wife, Marion, who is currently studying for her English Degree with the Open University. Derek paints in acrylics on paper, which help him recreate the sharp lines produced by the brilliant sunlight which bathes Gozo from March through November. Over the last ten years, Derek has had his works shown at numerous exhibitions in Gozo, Malta and England.
