Guildford Contra Dances |

These dances are held as part of the Guildford Folk Dancer's club. They aim to attract new people with similar dance interests with the addition of the popular "High Energy American Contra" dance. These High Energy dances are greatly influenced by English and American musicians - The English Contra Dance Band (UK), The Groovemongers (USA), Kelly's Eye (UK), The Weston Country Dance Band (UK), to mention just a few. The callers play a very important part in encouraging dancers to perform the right moves, at the right time, in the right place - Barrie Bullimore (UK) Kathy Anderson (USA), Ivan Aitken (UK), John Turner (UK), Lisa Greenleaf (USA), Cis Hinkle (USA), Mike Courthold (UK), John Meechan (UK), Adam Hughs (UK), Henry Morganstein (USA/UK), are just a few. Come along and listen to the music and dance at the new "High Energy Contras" to be held at Guildford on Saturday 20th November 2010 with "Ivan Aitken" calling to the music of "JIP". We hope that you will enjoy this increasingly popular style of dance. The movements are mostly continual with dancers being involved all of the time. It's fun, exciting and exhilarating. |
