Prior to 1066 the manor was part of the lands granted by Edward the Confessor to his wife Edith. Airic held the tenancy of Halsway and of Bicknoller and Monksilver.

| 1817 | Sold to Mary Stoate of Porlock, tenant James Crang, later sublet by him to Henry Poole, Richard Evered. On her death Manor left in trust to James Crang. |

| 1847 | James Crang III. Mr Thorne, farmer, tenant in later years. |
| 1873 | Charles Rowcliffe and others bought manor from James Crang. |
| 1877 | William Rowcliffe, brother, outright owner. Restoration begins. Charles Booth tenant in 1908. |
