June 14th 1998  'Folk on the Green'
The recent gig at Folk on the Green, went down well. The annual festival hosts mainly folk, blues, music etc, so Headwork had to come up with something special to inspire the crowd. The atmospheric 'As One' kicked off the set. It's reggae influence prepared the ground for the addictive upbeat anthem 'Infinity'. The last song was left to 'Leeway' to blast the crowd away, with its infectious, heavy overtones. Although it was only a short set of twenty minutes, it was well received by the crowd, despite a short outburst of rain during 'Infinity'. Oh! And the slight disadvantage, of having no cover on the stage. However, Headwork defied protocol by playing on! This was noted by Derek Gibbons, FOTG organizer, who later went on to say, "no band has played through the rain before". Only the timely intervention of the world famous 'Umbrella Crew', saved the band from certain death by electrocution. The prevailing force of Mother Nature could not deter the immovable object that is Headwork. All that she could muster was a swift and quite retreat. However despite the distractions, the local press, in the festival review noted the appreciation of the audience. The article stated 'Headwork complete with their umbrella roadies, also proved to be very popular'.

July 18th 1998  'The Global Festival'
The Global Festival is one of Buckinghamshire's premier music events, and the 1998 festival set out to prove just that. Campbell Park hosted the 12th free open-air festival featuring a jam-packed stage full of various performers from the local area and around the globe. The Main Stage on Saturday saw performances from various bands, and solo artists, with styles ranging from folk, blues and funk through to new age space rock. Acts included bands such as Greed, Binky, Gecko, Plastic Sole, and of course Headwork. Headwork put in a blinding performance as usual, and it was well received by the audience. The first song 'Way too High' soon got the attention of the crowd, making an immediate impact. Way too High, is a song that carries many emotions, with peaks of high energy, the bouncy bass lines and semi-psychedelic guitar, give extra power and drive to compliment this well constructed composition. 'Infinity' and 'As One', followed in style, as the crowd continued to grow, with large sections of the audience moving ever closer, and surrounding the Main Stage. The crowd's appreciation and enthusiasm was rewarded, as Headwork entered into their new song 'Holding On'. Holding On, is an excellent new single. With it's thought provoking lyrics and upbeat tempo. This song combines both pace and power, with melodic string scores, that provides the backdrop to the song. Truly awesome! Last but not least Headwork finished off with 'Leeway' which left it's mark, leaving the crowd dumbstruck!
August 19th 1998  'The Arena'
The Wednesday night slot dubbed as 'Raw Wednesday' was claimed event of the week in the gig listings in the local press. By the end of the night the press can definitely say that their predictions were right. Headwork was not willing to quarrel about what order the bands went on, so they nominated themselves to go on first. The other two bands God's Acre and Greed were also quality acts, and both bands put on an excellent show . For Headwork it was business as usual, and despite having some technical difficulties, Headwork took to the stage and done the job. Headwork decided on this night, to include 'E-Zone' as song number two, in a set designed to penetrate ;-) and overcome the audience. God's Acre are a grunge band with influences such as The Pixies, and they're sound was as awesome as Metallica. With this in mind Headwork made sure the sound was perfect, in response to such musical differences. However, as usual the sound check order didn't quite go to plan, because sometimes as is often the case, bands don't turn up until the last minute. This can often cause confusion, which can result in the sound changing. And yes, Headwork's sound was changed! To add to that Jay's guitar cut out a few times and he later went on to say. "I had major hassle with the guitar effects, but who gives a shit". Despite these technical problems Headwork played an awesome set, and managed to make a good impression, especially on local press reporter 'Lee Scrivens'. He asked Jay, "What is the name of the third song? The one about getting out of bed late?"
"Infinity" Jay replied.
"I really love it, it's a really good song.
Good set lads, nice one".
Well, I think that just about sums it up...
