Golf The park is situated at the entrance of St. Medan's Golf Club, a nine hole course with picturesque views across Monreith Bay. Eight other golf courses are located within 35 miles of the park, providing a variety of challenges to all golfers. Whithorn Trust Seven miles along the A747 is the historic town of Whithorn, home of Christianity in Scotland. The Whithorn Trust was founded in 1986 to examine the role of Whithorn in the evolution of Christianity. Sports and Leisure There are numerous sports and leisure facilities in the region, including the Merrick swimming pool in Newton Stewart and the Ryan Leisure Center in Stranraer. An all weather playing field is also available in Whithorn, with many children's playgrounds in local villages. Hard surface tennis courts are available in Port William. Countryside Pursuits Wigtownshire hosts ample opportunities for sea and freshwater fishing, particularly salmon and trout fishing in the river Cree and surrounding lochs. Cream o' Galloway Located East of Newton Stewart along the A75, Cream o' Galloway is a converted farm now producing totally organic natural ice creams and yogurts. Wigtown Book Town Wigtown was established as Scotland's National Book Town in 1997, and accommodates 25 related businesses, including 18 book shops. Galloway Forrest Park Galloway Forest Park was established in 1947 and contains a variety of outdoor pursuits, including marked trails, walks, cycle trails, timber sculptures and picnic areas. The forest also incorporates a Deer Range and numerous visitor centers.
