Pershings' Doughboys WW1 Living History Group

As the only group in Europe portraying service men and women of the American Expeditionary Force, Pershings' Doughboys have taken particular care of the quality of presentation, actively interacting with the general public through scheduled talks and first person living history.
Presented here are some of the awards and tokens of appreciation received by the group over the past few years.

2006 At the Memorial Day commemoration at the ABMC Cemetery at Brookwood Surrey the Group was honoured by the US Army 7th ARCOM Reserve Europe. Here Pershings Doughboys were formally presented with a certificate of appreciation, by Colonel Benjamin Loney on behalf of Brigadier General Richard Tabor, commanding General of the 7th ARCOM U.S. Army, Germany.

The citation reads:

7th Army Reserve Command Certificate of Appreciation is presented to PERSHINGS DOUGHBOYS for Exceptional support to the Brookwood memorial day ceremony.Your appearance and numerous performances as the salute detail contributed significantly to the event. Year after year your selfless dedication n honoring those who have paid the ultimate price of freedom is in keeping with the finest military traditions. Your genuine display of kindness and spirit of giving has made this a rewarding experience for all who attend. Please accept our deepest heartfelt appreciation for a job well done. 2003 OK not strictly an award, but how many people can you name who have received a Christmas Card from the President of The United States of America one George W. Bush! Presidential Card Cover award Presidential Card Inside award
2003 and the group follows up its success in Germany with an invitation by the Commanding General, Gen. B. B. Bell, to return, this time portraying service men and women from the period 1936-1944. Again the display was warmly appreciated, and once again the group had the honor of teaching American serviceman and women their own history! This time members attending were each awarded the Commanding Generals' Four Star Coin for Excellence. Expo2003 award
In 2002 the Doughboys made a further excursion into Europe, this time in support of the United States Army Europe & U.S. Seventh Army Land Combat Expo. The groups presentation was recognised by the presentation of a Scroll of Appreciation to each member attending, signed by Col. Frederic Batchelor, Secretary of the General Staff. The citation reads in part

"For exceptionally meritorious achievement while supporting the....Land Combat Expo."

In 2001 each member of the group was presented with The Oregon State Medal for WW1 Service on behalf of the Oregon Military Museum by Major Stephen C. Mcgeorge USA (Ret). The citation reads

"in recognition of Pershings' Doughboys efforts to memorialise America's fallen Soldier, and in particular men of the National Guard,..."

In 1999 the group won Best Living History Group awarded by Military Illustrated Magazine's. Military Illustrated award
In 1998 at the invitation of the Belgian Royal Family the Doughboys attended Europe's largest gathering of WW1 soldiers, equipment and motor transport, the event held in Brussels' Central Park and hosted by Royal Museum of The Army and Military History. The group was presented with a silver plate by the General Staff of the Belgian Army (the ITC) in recognition of the living history encampment and first person interaction with the visitors.
