The Garden

The gardens at Goodnestone Park are the creation of the FitzWalter family, who have lived there since it was built in 1704.

In recent years the late Lord FitzWalter and his wife undertook a huge programme of restoration and development, returning the trio of interlinking walled gardens to their former glory, clearing and extending the woodland garden, now renowned for its snowdrops and hellebores in early spring, planting an arboretum, replanting a lime avenue and recreating a formal parterre in celebration of the millennnium. A gravel garden was added in 2003.

The most recent innovations in this ongoing project are a new plant nursery and lecture room. In addition, Goodnestone is home to a number of beautiful, and in some cases very rare, trees.

This is an all-seasons garden, but it should be at its high-summer best at the time of our Garden Show and Plant Sale in mid-July.

The Plant Sale

The Plant Sale, featuring Specialist Nurseries and Private Growers from around Kent and Sussex, offers visitors the chance to buy from an extensive range of interesting and desirable plants, many of which are rare and difficult to get through normal suppliers. In addition, for the first time this year, we shall also be having our own HPS stall at the show, selling Members' plants.

Some of the Specialist Nurseries do not supply by mail order and many of the Private Growers sell only through the Plant Sales.

Opportunities to choose from so many unusual and beautiful plants in one place do not come often, so don't miss this one!

The Flower Show and Displays

Kent Group members grow a wide range of plants and will be entering some of their prized specimens in a competitive flower show in the marquee. There will also be a photographic section with four classes covering different aspects of plants and gardens.

In additon to the competitive flower show, Kent Members and Area Groups will be mounting displays of the many unusual plants they grow.

If you want to be impressed by unusual, often rare, plants shown at the peak of perfection, make your way to the flower marquee and feast your eyes.
