The Garden The 15-acre garden is a garden for all seasons ranging from spring bulbs to autumn colour. Following extensive renovation and development in recent years, the visitor can can now see a trio of interlinked walled gardens which have been restored to their former glory, with roses, mixed borders, alpines and ornamental greenhouse, as well as a woodland garden, lime avenue and arboretum. The garden is home to a number of beautiful, and in some cases very rare trees such as the huge southern beech, Northofagus fusca, and including a Cedar of Lebanon that is believed to date from the time the house was built, and an even older sweet chestnut. The formal terrace with its parterre, recreated for the Millennium, has matured well and a gravel garden was added in 2003. The most recent innovations in this ongoing project of development are a new plant nursery and a lecture room. From the A2 east of Canterbury take the B2046 north-east towards Wingham and look for brown tourist signs to Goodnestone to the east of the B2046.
