Snowdrops and Hellebores

Once again we are holding this popular event at Goodnestone Park in mid-February, thanks to the generosity of Lady Fitzwalter.

Snowdrops have a special appeal to gardeners and look particularly good planted en masse as they are at Goodnestone, where more are planted every year. They are beautifully complemented by hellebores, which have an extraordinarily long flowering season of several months in the early part of the year. Both vary more than many gardeners realise, with a wide variety of species and forms to collect.

The idea of the Snowdrop and Hellebore Extravaganza is to highlight this variation and to share the fascination we all have with these plants.

At mid-day we are delighted to welcome Ann Borrill who has travelled widely and seen many snowdrops in the wild. She will talk on these discoveries and other plant associations. The talk is free but there is only limited seating in the lecture hall, so entry is by ticket only.

There will also be a wide variety of plants for sale, including snowdrops, hellebores and early-flowering bulbs, and shrubs and trees of winter interest from a variety of nurseries.

Hot drinks, soup and other refreshments will be on sale throughout the day.

Despite the uncertain weather - and do come wrapped up warm! - our previous snowdrop and hellebore days have been great fun, and prove that we really are Hardy Planters!
