 G.P.S. (GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)

A QUICK REVIEW
If you are scared of getting lost there is a solution. Costing about £275, the G.P.S 4000 is one of the newest, but most accurate navigational piece of equipment,   that I know in compass design.
Basically the G.P.S is a satellite controlled compass, mostly, accurate to 50 meters over 2 miles. It works by the transmitter and receiver inside the compass sending and receiving data from several satellites. You can have up to 9 satellite's at your service at once. For the G.P.S. to work properly you need to have 3 satellites properly contacted by the transmitter at one time, which is very easy to do if you are outside. These satellite's runs the G.P.S. and in return gives you an 8 figure grid reference which is directly relational to the scale of the map that the G.P.S is at the programmed on, and a lot more.
A major advantage to the G.P.S is that it can be used anywhere in the world, and it is no less accurate anywhere in the world.
For many people the price tag is a major problem, but it is worth it as when you know how to use it properly there is almost no way of getting lost.
